Ummmm, Michael Jordan is still the GOAT in the NBA with regards to championship rings, playoff MVP's, avg ppg in the playoffs, career avg ppg, team leadership in 1 team. Your disillusioned if your comparing the NBA to F1. F1 is constantly in flux and ever changing. I am not dismissing Lewis's titles, accolades or stats. I am simply stating that someone with his level of "talent and skills"" , surely he can (age 37) still be the credible(as you put it) F1 driver for the 2022 season....no??
with all the software failsafes since 2014 can drivers still over-rev engines or wear clutches quicker due to agressive driving styles ? Certainly could happen with the mechanical historical stuff. Was LeClerc's blown unit at Baku down to driving style ? I've seen no evidence of such.
Especially since the V6 Hybrid era, there have been many more sensors implemented into the cars to prevent just such things. Wearing clutches will actually be a lot harder as well now as they can practically pull away from very low RPM, used to be that they where very tricky indeed. Current engines can rev to 15K but no one does it. I'm not sure if there's a downshift prevention on the cars, but either way it would require a monumental idiot of a driver to over-rev today. The most likely for reliability issue today is going to be poor design, mechanic mistake or a sensor failure that shuts everything down (not always can a sensor be reset in time), which is largely all out of the drivers hand.
Anti-stall buttons, default settings, and a call from the pits to alter the program settings when something isn't right. It's the digital age. No more analog.
I certainly don't worship Hamilton, but I acknowledge his achievements. He has obtained without contestation the best results in the history of F1. Something many are unable to do, because of his personality, it seems.
It goes a bit further than that. For years Hamilton had impecable results, but then all credit was given to his car to dismiss his skill. Then all aspects of his life, hobbies, social interaction, privacy, dress code, jewelry, close friends and acquaintances, street cars, taxes, are constantly talked about, ridiculed, etc ... That has no impact at all on his driving. I don't follow much other sports, where this kind of attention may be ordinary, but to me the amount of criticism and hate against Hamilton is absolutely unbeliveable. I had never seen that before in F1. Hamilton pays a high price for his success, and I wonder if he will be allowed to enjoy a peaceful retirement.
Two things here: - His Mercedes is a dog this year. - Hamilton is demotivated, and just going through the motions. Russell is doing better, without the shadow of a doubt, and perhaps Hamilton's form will improve if the car gets better. I wish Hamilton could retire, and that we could turn a page on this.
You drive a car that's miles ahead of the competition and you'll always get those comments. Michael Schumacher still gets them, here! Very few people have made a serious claim that said that Lewis is ****. Almost all his ''haters'' credit his driving ability. Lewis puts his entire social life out for all to see. He lives a very...unorthodox life. Of course he's going to get comments on it! Same for his clothes. They are certainly abnormal so of course he's going to get comments on it. As for Taxes, I've always defended drivers who go to live in a low or no tax area. And I have done the same for Lewis. The only bit I criticized him for is that he claims to pay tax in 20 or so countries, which is ********. We have the same discussion all the time. It's getting seriously boring.
Did Schumacher win late in his career with the Ferrari and Merc? (Not denigrating Michael, just noting that people tail off as they age). Even Alonso gets handled by Ocon many times. Father Time is undefeated 'Flash in the pan' for 13 years lol...some of us were saying LH was showing signs of Fr Time last season. Even mores so this season. Russell is young and legit. Lewis is still good, but I don't think he's 'up' for the issues that the W13 gives him
Alonso is a self-serving contrarian. He'll say anything to cast himself in a better light than Hamilton. Fact is, he's not dominating Ocon, though he is an all-time great (imo...and Ocon is not). I'm certain Alonso's vertebra and fillings are rattling out also, but he wants to feel like he's got one-up on Lewis since the record books won't show them in the same light.
Maybe the Alpine doesn't suffer from porpoising so much? Alonso seems strongly buit compared to Hamilton.
Schumacher was in my opinion the best in the last 2 decades but he also made the mistake to join Mercedes and was like Louise now, driving at the back of the pack and did not battle for the WDC. He should’ve retired sooner or joined lesser race programs like the DTM. LH should stop asap. ciao Oscar
It's very difficult to know when to stop perhaps, mostly when you had plenty of success. It's also hard to resist the offers to come back when they are made. The only successful come back I know was Niki Lauda who gained his 3rd crown after a sabatical.

He is 6th n the points ahead of 13 other drivers in the 3rd bet car. In F1 you are credible if you are in 10th place in the points.
This guy should have been the WDC last year, instead he was 2nd. So, what changed? Oh right, the CAR... You're thinking in 4 months he forgot how to drive? There is NO DOUBT the CAR has "issues". Russell sits in 4th, Lewis sits in 6th, NEITHER has sniffed winning a race this year. M-B is in the WINNING F1 races business. The fact that they are not in 2022 is their failing, not Russell or Hamilton's.
