There will be a break away country for the petrol head aficionado- perhaps it is called ICEland- it will be protected by medium range nukes, jets running on real jet fuel and nuclear ships and subs and will a beacon to all refugees from the dark and cold continent- Bring us your V twins, V4,6,8,10,12 and 16!(and throw in a few rotaries and diesels). ICEland will protect you and yours-and we will pump crude until the wells run dry then use our nuclear fleet to find and protect more wells. And when the rest of the world realizes freezing in winter and frying in summer is no fun and climate change continues unabated despite their living in huts and wearing hemp clothes and eating bird food,it will be too late for them. But ICEland will have winding roads, racetracks and real heated and cooled but efficient homes. And ICElanders will be happy. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
Now I want to move to Iceland. But it sure looks cold there! (I do like your ICEland…) Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
They can pipe in sound in and out and imagine 1000 - 2000hp todays reality vs 800hp, No oil changes maint - gone. Next gen will embrace EV vs ICE like 60's muscle cars. ve older cars and last ICE but owning them and maintaining them is not cheap add chance of not starting / breaking down is always present vs overnight factory updates. Factories will be selling EV's online - what Tesla started BMW has followed and Ford is stating same.
I especially like the lithium-ion autocatalytic exothermic reactions (i.e. inextinguishable fires) of EV's, and the toxic fumes they produce. So charming and enticing, especially when they occur inside the garage of one's house.
Why would anyone "embrace" EV? What is the attraction? Love of dentist drills? Toasters? Silence? Maybe its the way they destroy tires with all that weight they carry? So far, all those 'exotic' EVs are priced at $1.5M++ and in very low quantities and not quite yet being delivered https://electrek.co/2022/04/11/rimac-shares-nevera-winter-testing-footage-ahead-of-deliveries-to-all-150-customers/ Why pay mega$$ for an EV when cars like the Plaid are just as quick? If that's all you care about, being quick...because that's about all an EV has going for it in terms of fun to drive... As for Ferrari, maybe they go out of the car business unless Vigna can bring next-level quality to the electronics because who doesn't want an unreliable 'zero heritage' (without a combustion engine) Ferrari?
Well there are many things today that make me scratch my head. Preference for EV is one of the least concerning… I imagine automakers may be reciting: “Ours is not to reason why…” :/ Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
People crying bloody murder once again. Same as with the demise of manual combustion timing adjustment, carburettors, manual gearboxes...
And bias ply tires, 8track tapes, real chrome, bench seats and 2 1:2 tons of metal… Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
The move to total electric is quite a bit different than the evolutionary changes with ICE vehicles. But yes, people generally don’t like change. THAT hasn’t changed at all! Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
There is a caveat…. I think we are on a sweet spot in our current era before the full transition to EV. There’s no doubt that EV is technically more advanced in terms of speed and efficiency. But the attributes we Will long for are those facets of the automotive experience that stirred excitement and emotions. A hand crankshaft, carburetors, etc. didn’t make the driving experience more “fun.” A manual gearshift engages the driver, the NA sound titillates the aural experience. So some of these attributes will long be sought after. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I would even argue against an EV being better and faster. A 1500 HP ICE/hybrid can be even faster, due to the decreased weight. I am firmly on the ICE camp! I also get it that times change though.Evolve or perish, as one Darwin might have said..
Particularly when it is forced, like prison rations...no choice for those who want to choose...if EVs were simply another choice, so be it, but that is not what is occurring and there is the focus of the frustration...
Agreed. That is a big difference. No comments from me on that because that dips into P&R… Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
If you don't want to pay mega I get it - ones who do don't mind ... that's the difference. Entire premise of an event car is to live and experience life to it's fullest. If driving a Tesla and going fast makes one happy - go for it. For some reason people equate EV all being equal. IMO it's like comparing a Corolla to a 308.
My biggest bugaboo about EVs isn’t the lack of sound or the added tonnage, it’s the 20+ minute charge times just to get back on the road for a decent distance. Life is too short to spend it at a charging station. Every extra minute is lost time that you never ever get back. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
Here is a great presentation on why pure electric vehicles are not as "clean" as many believe. The devil is always in the details - especially how "zero emission" is defined.
