Ok, I'll play along. With Russell 4th in the standings, that must mean the Mercedes is 2nd or joint 2nd fastest car then? In which case, where is Lewis?
No... YOU'RE talking about out performing his teammate The rest of us are talking about whether Lewis is a "flash in the pan" or not. (You know, the actual TOPIC of the thread which you and the other Lewis haters hijacked).
Lewis still fights...earned DOTD. I'm just saying that neither Lewis nor Fernando are at the top of their abilities. Max, Charles, and George are just getting started...and have more to prove (even Fernando is probably driven more by a career that hasn't produced what it should have). I'm not saying Hamilton has completely fallen to the wayside, just that he's not as consistently strong as in the past.
It is the 3rd best car in the field....behind RedBull (1) and behind Ferrari(2).....followed by Mercedes.
The ONLY reason MB is in 4th and 6th place is because Ferrari can't seem to avoid stepping on it's d&&k. You, of course, know this but it doesn't fit YOUR narrative.
Actually I was playing along with your narrative. If Ferrari didn't keep tripping over it's own dick, the Mercedes would still be 3rd fastest car, no?
It could be the 2nd best car in the field IF Ferrari still keeps tripping over its [censored by FOM] . Time will tell.
Truth: 7 time WDC And all your gyrations and silly small picture scenarios won't change that. Is Lewis a "flash in the pan". History says no, he is not.
The best driver of all time ( according to stats and you ) fairly beaten by a driver who has never won a single GP ( Russell). Enough to demonstrate how limited are statistics.
Who? What "past champions" succeeded with "inferior equipment and still won"? "Won" as in won A race? "Won" as in won the WDC?
Maybe we have to re-define what is "a flash in the pan", because I cannot see that fitting Hamilton. A flash in the pan for me is someone who had one success, never followed by anything else. You know, a "one off" and nothing else to show. There has been a few in F1. Maldonado was a flash in the pan: one win and then vanished. Kovalainen was another one I remember. But how a driver who has been in F1 for 15 years and 100 wins could be a "flash in the pan" is beyond me.
@Bas knows this already but you just happen to chime in a FChat like yesterday. Bas isn't denying Lewis's titles, accolades and stats BUT he knows what he and I and many others see with regard to Lewis from 2014 thru 2020 to 2022. You need to be a regular here more often to see where Bas and myself are coming from.
We need that to stop happening. I just turned the freaking race off. Just what do they need to do to keep it together? Everything looked so bright earlier in the season, and then they just summarily started Ferrari-ing race after race. It's becoming a season of a) a dominant car that runs, b) a dominant car that breaks down or other misfortune and c) a polished turd with a guy maximizing its stenchy performance. All the while drivers bouncing all over the place in what is supposed to be the 'pinnacle of motorsports' Not really a great rewrite of the formula, imo....Liberty, I'm calling this a fail, if we're grading. "Drive to Survive" takes on a new meaning with all of this stuff going on.
Since we're talking facts: Current champion Max has won races (plural) in the 3rd best car Won a title in the inferior car (as did Lewis in 2008) Don't take my words for it, just Toto's. Wolff sees advantage for Verstappen: 'It's easy for him now' (gpblog.com)
I NEVER called him the "best driver of all time". NOT ONCE. But I am curious. What do YOU use to measure ANY athlete in ANY sport beyond their performance (which is what "statistics" measure)? I can't wait to hear this answer. I'm not sure what you guys want. The 2022 M-B is not a good car and a 38 year old is being outperformed by hungry youngster. And all you haters think this is some kind proof that Lewis is less than other champions.
So you don't take any consideration of the age difference, of the length of career, etc ... Do you think that someone who run a few times the 100m under 10 sec will be able to do it for the rest of his life? Be serious for once !!! Did you use the same yardstick for Schumacher?
Unbelievable. So, the 2021 Red Bull was an "inferior" car? As inferior as the 2022 M-B is to the 2022 RB and Ferrari? Or just a little inferior?
