Found these letters today , must have been a few good years in business plus the dividends from the family business , to buy at the age of 29 a new Rolls-Royce? And at the age of around 28 a new Cessna 172.

I asked him years ago was he disappointed he had ordered a new Silver Cloud 11 in 1962, when the Silver Cloud 111 was released in early 1963?

He said no as he preferred the single headlight and the last of the Silver Cloud 11s were more or less mechanically a Silver Cloud 111.

In fact he bought another Silver Cloud 11 a few years latter (the photo at the farm with the Silver Cloud 111 and the white FHC E-type 3.8 he owned .The Silver Cloud 111 in the photo was one year old when he purchased it , so the photo is around early 1966.As it was late delivery car.

So I know he bought the Cessna 172 new before he took delivery of the Silver Cloud 11, but when ? My mother thinks early 1961, as he had it before they moved into the long term family home .

So going on photos and Kellow Faulkner service cards I have viewd the Silver Cloud 11 was sold before the end of 1963 ,so I suspect the Cessna was sold in late 1962/early 1963, which would make sense as to my sisters arrival in 1962. View attachment 3347222

I just wish I had more of the period car photos , so many cars, many of the photos have been far too water damaged to save .

My stepfather in 1971, his Silver Cloud 111 has a noisy hydraulic lifer and a wear on the camshaft ...so made the decision to pull the motor down and replace the camshaft, lifters and at the same time fit the higher compression 9.1 pistons , port and polish the engine of his beloved Silver Cloud 111.

Not a bad effort for an ex army staff car driver .

Sadly a car he owned from 1967 till his passing some 3 years ago at 92 years of age is now with a daughter , sitting in a shed on a farm wasting away .I tried to buy off her but NO.

a few bits the number plates .......

Its a sad story a 2 owner 120,000 mile car never smashed or damaged fantastic patina in the trim, a full house option car , just rotting away now .

The best colour combo for that model ,car drove so well as it has always been on the correct tyres .

When ever it turned up at RROCA rallies , it was always the prettiest car at the run.

That number HYY123 had been since around 1974 on a Jaguar my stepfather bought new for mum and he put the number SC003 on his Rolls,when we sold that Jaguar in 2003 when he retired , I put the plate on my new Rangie and since than the 2 x Macans . good spotting .

 

His side of the family must really hate you though for the life of me I'm at a loss why that would be

As much as I like the 6 cylinder S Series Continentials , there great on highway but ,Nah prefer a V8 period RR/B car ,so much more grunt .

 

This is such a rare diamond ...

Now an auto....but one of 3 RHD Park Wards in that body that was produced with a manual gearbox .
