They have to race and win a class at Le Mans, and that's a big ask.

That's not a "factory" Ferrari, but that is a factory Ford..

Clown post weekend indeed. Multimatic engineered and built the LeMans Ford GTs (including no 68 shown on the cover of “The Big Ask” above).

Ferrari SpA haven't suggested they'll made a road variant of their intended Le Mans Hypercar (LMH), and given that in 2023 WEC and IMSA will combine LMH and Daytona Prototype International (DPi) into one class, LMdH, expecting a win would be a very big ask. If Ferrari can win this Class, a road variant will of course be enhanced by this, however, if a win and then a road car ever happens, it'll be taking a page out of Ford's playbook.

    https://www.ferrari.com/en-EN/competizioni-gt/2023-le-mans-hypercar

"49 years after that date, Ferrari unveils the first details of the Le Mans Hypercar that will compete in the FIA World Endurance Championship from 2023. The car, which will begin its first development tests in the coming weeks, shows strong design references to the stylistic features that distinguish the models in the Prancing Horse range. With just over a year to go until the centenary edition of the Le Mans 24 Hours in 2023, the countdown to the appointment with history, fifty years after that last participation, has officially begun."

Ferrari are following in Ford's footsteps, hoping for a 50th Anniversary win, which is exactly what Ford accomplished in 2016 exactly 50 years on from it's historic 1-2-3 win in 1966. Then they made the road-going new Ford GT. The parallel is clearly drawn, the book cover's point is well-made.

    Yes, I do.

Your list is somewhat incomplete, FIA have confirmed Cadillac's entry in the Le Mans Hypercar (LMH) Class at Le Mans in 2023

    https://www.fia.com/news/wec-cadillac-reveals-its-2023-hypercar-project

Cadillac joins Toyota, Peugeot, Audi, Porsche, Acura, Ferrari, Glickenhaus, and more besides.

I'm not sure about Vanwall / ByKolles, their entry to the 2022 FIA WEC championship was rejected, so one wonders if they'll make the grid in 2023.

We know Ford affiliate Multimac built the Ford GTs, again the book cover was used for illustrative purposes simply to say to win at Le Mans is a big ask. That said, Ferrari affiliate Michelotto builds Ferrari competition cars, partnerships are key in racing, for example, in 2023 Ferrari has revealed that it will partner with Ferrari affiliate AF Corse for its forthcoming Le Mans Hypercar program, and the team will compete under the banner of Ferrari / AF Corse with cars built by Michelotto.

Yikes!! Joe S is without a doubt one of the most knowledgeable and respected members on FChat and has forgotten more about high end cars- and the racing/races they competed in- and various forms of racing in general- than most (including me) know or aspire to know.

    :cool::rolleyes:

Ferrari have stated that the LMH racer won't have anything to do wit any road car.

Funded by who? Multimatic? Or was it Ford bank rolling the cars ( they apparently can't build themselves?)

Michelotto have built GT cars. They defo don't build the F1 cars. This Hypercar is in house.

    Correct.

    Funded by Ford Motor Company.

We know Michelotto doesn't build F1 cars, and nobody has suggested that. Again, Ferrari has revealed that it will partner with Ferrari affiliate AF Corse for its forthcoming Le Mans Hypercar program, and the team will compete under the banner of Ferrari / AF Corse with cars built by Michelotto, so it won't be entirely in-house.

    Thank you for the sentiments.

Winning any class in the world's toughest race is very difficult to do, especially first time out with a new car, Ferrari will have to content with automotive giants such as Toyota, Peugeot, Audi, Porsche etc so the odds of success in this program are definitely stacked against them in a race where reliability will be tested to the max, and as we saw from Leclerc's F1 exit today, reliability is key.

In truth my first post was incomplete, I should have said:

Ferrari are seeking a Return to Glory however that's a A Big Ask ;)

that's insane that they were just literally racing themselves or one other team? I don't really follow motorsport that closely

most sports etc would call off a comeptition if there was only 1 to 2 entries

They were Racing Jim Glickenhaus' team as well as Alpine with a last gen car. None of those teams spent nearly as much money on their program as Toyota.

Technological transfer doesn't mean a road car version of a race car. They have been transferring F1 technology to their road cars for decades.

Maybe I misunderstood what you were saying.

I did not take this quote as a road version of the LMH, but as there wouldn't be any association between the next supercar or any roadcar, which in the presentation it was confirmed that there will be.

Not entirely true, Ferrari has ended the collaboration with Michelotto who was in charge for the 430, 458 and 488 GTC/3/E Cars recently. the new 296 GT3 will be developed inhouse and assembled by Oreca.

The LMH is a complete in-house developmend with some support of AF Corse and Dallara. Michelotto is not involved in any of the projects neither GT3 nor LMH. AF Corse is responsible for the testing and racing operations on track.
The Car is already running, no rollout has been done yet but it will be done very soon.

    Leiters stated this indeed.
But it seems they have changed their mind since..
