Do you seriously think it takes a full day to charge an EV? I agree in rural areas, sure. Most folks live, well - in cities - where there are plenty of superchargers. 20 min. The thing is, you do realize you're like arguing against the internet, say in 1995 because you are saying the speed is too low over dial-up? You know we're only in the second inning of electric right? That's not even debatable. I'm happy folks here love their ICE cars; I own ICE too, and I share that love. I just I don't understand the need to ignore the virtues of EVs, but heck, there is a lot of behavior I don't understand these days.
I don't think that's crazy at all, in fact, I like both too. I know talking to all the kids I see in middle school that they say the exact opposite. They like the smell of clean air and a sound infinitely customizable to exactly what they want. I won't call them crazy either, deal?
For the sake of argument, let's agree that EVs are not efficient, and the grid can't handle them. Okay. What I don't understand is both counterpoints are P&R. Ferrari is not exactly the most 'efficient' (oil-wise) of vehicles. Ask a 'greeny' why they hate Ferrari and they'll say mention a whole host of the world can't 'handle them.' I find it incredibly fascinating that detractors of EVs use the same exact arguments that hippies used against Ferrari to eschew them. I knew this the moment I read folks here actually arguing that EVs are 'too well-performing.' I had to check if I was really on Ferrarichat, instead of Priuschat. ** A lot of folks had my quartz watch analogy go completely go over their heads. For hundreds of years, mechanical watches were standard, until the Quartz revolution of the 70s. The Apple Watch is now the top-selling watch in history - full stop. Yet, we still have this Here's the kicker, you don't have competition (races) with watches. Hence....
I thought this was about the virtues or demerits of EV cars? Hence Ferrari's adoption of fast (I know I know, many here argue they should cap their HP and go slower, let's agree to disagree.) *** I remember when EVs were first coming out the argument was how slow, unreliable, expensive, poor performing, they are. How do I know? Well, I was the one making them. After Musk proved me wrong, what can I say? I'm a person that doesn't see shame in changing their mind with new FACTS. It's so funny how now I see the argument has shifted to Ev's negative environmental/infrastructure impact. Hahaha
Sometimes outside forces will push the transition, over the next 6 months there is going to happen things in Europa in order to replace natural gas from Russia. Its going to be expensive and difficult, but if Russia stops delivering natural gas there is no way around it.
Well, once Texas, one of the largest energy producers in the country, is having to shut down grids, then EV's infrastructure impact has to come to the forefront. Putting more grease on a grease fire is probably not a reasonable thing to ignore.
As you say, we have seen this discussion many times before. The watch industry, the music industry, the outfacing of the manual gear etc. etc. etc. It is just development.
I don't like talking about P&R, well since, there's a forum for that here. I like to keep conversations about objective things, like lap times and horsepower, and skid pads. I see Lotus have a 2,000 hp car, Koe has one, and Rimac. That all other exotic car manufacturers are following. What can I say? I'm not going to lie and argue that Ferrari should have far less horsepower than their competitors. For Ferrari cars, I don't care about the environment or regulations or the grid, so even if all the eco political-warriors here argue against me, that's fine - I'll even go as far as say you may be all right = EVs are actually bad for the environment and infrastructure. That makes me a pariah around these parts, I know that.
I agree! Another reason why I’ll cherish my ICE Ferrari. its like folks that own Mac 10s scared of the 1986 bill. Good for us! Guess maybe some folks here don’t own ICE Ferrari, that makes sense. I would be angry too if my window of opportunity is closing, but even then they got at least what 20 years?
I was one of the EV naysayers. That’s truth. After my first 2 second 0-60 run…… I changed my mind. I understand some folks here say that’s too fast, and that they are bad for the environment or infrastructure. what can I say, what drew me to Ferrari was not to save the earth or usher in world peace.
As is your prerogative! That's the beauty, right? Nobody here is saying you *have* to care or that you *have* to have an interest. You're not forced to buy anything new the house of Maranello is producing. Now, If you can point me to some law that bans the ICE cars we currently own, I think we both should care intensely. *** I do see a lot of folks saying Ferrari should cap their horsepower or go slower, which I seriously don't understand. Even with forced injection, an ICE is nearing its limits. I mean, even the Tuatara/Chiron can't hit 2,000. When I think of Ferrari, I think of advancing, not stagnation. Just me.
Took the words right out of my mouth. The Aston Vantage is probably a runner up. Sent from my iPad using FerrariChat.com mobile app
They should of done that 10 years ago, dangerous dependency would of been averted. But, here is some relief: https://www.worldoil.com/news/2022/3/14/new-north-sea-gas-field-goes-into-production-boosting-uk-energy-security/ The rest of Europe needs to get busy using recent fracking techniques to increase their known reserves: Top known natural gas reserves by EU Country; https://www.worldometers.info/gas/norway-natural-gas/#gas-reserves https://www.worldometers.info/gas/netherlands-natural-gas/#gas-reserves https://www.worldometers.info/gas/germany-natural-gas/#gas-reserves It is obvious they are not trying very hard to find, it's there... # # # They really need to the leave the CO2 nonsense behind them, it is 100% disproved by the following two images: Image Unavailable, Please Login we are simply coming out of a series of little ice ages, wait till the next real ice occurs Image Unavailable, Please Login (CO2 line is relatively stable vs actual oil production)
This is where a crystal ball would be useful. It really is a whole new arena, as you say. What can Ferrari (or Porsche or Aston Martin…) do to differentiate itself? Given the indifferent fit and finish of Tesla, and strong sales of the Porsche Taycan, it looks like buyers have an appetite for a performance EV with style and heritage. My automotive heart is with cars like the 308/328, F40 and the air-cooled Porsches. They get my pulse up, and sound and smell right. That said, if Ferrari or Porsche come up with a great electric sports car… Sent from my iPad using FerrariChat.com mobile app
