Pure stats is what determine the WDC, and the WCC, not "emotions". :)

Mind you, when the Ferrari team principal, Binotto, goes publicly saying that winning the championship isn't their goal, that must have surely nave deflated the enthusiasm of many tifosi, I would have thought.
Sure, if you have low expectations, it's harder to fail !
That was a massive PR blunder in my book, and certainly not the best way to rally the troops.

Wow, I'm honored. Thanks for allowing an "open minded debate" even though your idea of what "open minded" involves is not even close to reality.

Apparently, not submitting to the thought ''Lewis is the GOAT'' = not being open minded. Same result as any hamilton discussion in the last 6 years or so.

And after that, simply divert the thread like so:

Call it a hate thread! Seriously, what hate?! That some are not agreeing he's the greatest? What a ridiculous notion.

Just checking in here, how’s the “Goat” doing?

I think this season is an eye opener for everyone, where Lewis could have shined and stepped up to lead the team out of the current dilemma . Instead he continues to falter, blame the team and lose out to a team mate who should not be surpassing him week after week. The team continues to pamper and baby him over the radio, he’s not a leader and expects everything to be delivered to him.

I guess it depends on perspective. I was surprised he returned for this season, as it was evident that Fr Time was on his heels last season (there were mistakes not involving Masi that facilitated Max's WDC). Older drivers will still run circles around any of us on our best days, but their season tends to wane quickly while the young lions grow in stature (even with a 4th, I think people should really look out for Russell).

I always considered this a "handoff"/transition season between Russell and Hamilton. Given Russel's performance, it would be easy to see Lewis ride off into the sunset at season's end.

My opinion. That's why I am not surprised that Russell does better.

Hamilton's departure (end 2022 or 2023) depends, IMO, how quickly Toto Wolff decides who will be a suitable replacement.

I find the title of this thread and the first post comical as it purports to offer an informed opinion on a subject that people who are truly knowledgeable about F1 don't question in the slightest. Calling Hamilton a flash in the pan ranks up with INSISTING the world is flat. You may not like him but his accomplishments are so overwhelming that it totally discredits one to downplay them.

I don't defend Hamilton; I defend the record, the milestones he created.

It's part of the history of F1. To disparage that is to denigrate the sport itself.

I think it's having a warped mentality to call the most successful in any sport a cancer.

    I will say no more.

Actually, the warped mentality is believing that he brings something TO the sport the past few years, other than entitlement and wokeness. I actually have some respect for you Will. most of your posts are right down the middle. But your posts are tough to understand which way you are going.
