    Eu cars come with ignition key, body locks key, and fuel filler key, USA cars come with the first two as the gas caps are twist-off.

    At least this car was driven. No doubt that it will be properly repaired and will hopefully be on the road again soon.

    Given the values of these cars nowadays, most of them will remain garage Queens forever. That is too bad.

    I just drove 2000km with mine from Monaco to Tuscany and back. It was fantastic and this is what these cars were built for.

    Watching the video leading into the actual crash (which is blocked by the house), the F40 is certainly NOT hotdogging, seems to be driving about the same speed as the other cars.
    Old, out of date tires????

    Jacques makes a very valid point.

    I know that homages/reproductions/fakes! are frowned upon within fchat, but much less so in the general car community.

    it is widely accepted that many people turn to such within the 250 GTO/LM SWB ownership group as a way to preserve their original car, whilst also having a facsimile to use and enjoy at the same time.

    It is now possible to reproduce a virtually visually identical copy of both the 288 GTO and F40/LM based on an existing Ferrari chassis of the correct wheelbase, with comparable or even better Ferrari drivetrains and build quality. I am not talking of the previous generations of copies where you need to squint to see any similarity as those were made in a time when originals were much less valuable than they are today.

    I am aware of a number of such in build that will start to appear within the next couple of years, which will be ideal for track day cars, hill climbs, general summer road use etc. There is even a company in Italy now that can and are building tool room copies, however these are mainly used to replace Phoenix F40s so still quite costly.

    So a question for existing owners, do you see a time when a viable stable mate for your original car would make sense? for say less than 20% of the value of that original, which side by side would be very hard to tell apart at a cars and coffee event, whilst not pretending to be an original either.

    I do not see the same happening for later examples such as F50s Enzo's La Ferrari etc as they are just too complicated to reproduce properly.

    This is an adult question, so adult responses please, if you are vehemently against such, that is your prerogative, and already probably well known on here, so the question is aimed at existing owners or those that would like the 288 GTO/F40 experience but now accept that ship has sailed, if you want a car to use and enjoy without worry about depreciation or damage.

    Not a sales pitch either as none are for sale at this time that I am aware of. I believe Scott (Ratarossa) will be detailing such a build soon on his you tube channel.

    If you saw his recent conversion of a 360 soft top to full CS spec you will realise it is going to be quality job.

    I agree that this F40's damage can be properly repaired, Ferrari or a competent coach-builder can make it as new again, the damage appears restricted to the nose, I've lost count of how many F40s have had their front hoods replaced or repaired, all good, it should be back on the road again soon.

    I'm not sure I agree that most F40s will remain in the garage, at todays values, there are many more expensive Supercars which are driven on the roads regularly, and in fact vastly more expensive vintage Ferraris that are driven at speed in rallies & vintage events, so I think the percentage of garage queens will remain a factor of the owner's already-established habits as opposed to increasing values.

    Given the fact that the newer cars seemed to make that corner without any drama, perhaps it was old tires or the driver that were the issue.

    The problem with Ferrari replicas that are hard to tell apart is, at some point they pretend to be the real thing or at least confuse the initiated who think they are looking at the real thing, and in the Ferrari community that's always going to be an issue.

    My thoughts on the Ferrari replica topic today are, at today's values, anyone wanting a Ferrari 288 GTO or F40 is thinking at least partly investment and future upside, so only the real thing will suffice.

    There were five F40 owners in the group I went with for this 2000km trip. None of them considered to come with their F40 and they all chose to come with more recent /common models.

    I agree that many owners accept to drive their supercars in specific events. Those events are Taylor made for these cars: rallyes, vintage events...

    When it comes to normal /regular trips with no "show", only open roads in the every day context, well, I am not so sure...

    Also, F40 are not the easiest cars (a Laferrari may be easier to drive and more comfortable). No doubt that they are good and rewarding cars but you have to know and respect them.

    Let's face it : for long trips, a 812gts may be a more obvious choice...

    In any case I hope you are right and we'll see how it goes!

    Exactly my point, those other guys chose the more comfortable cars because thats what they tend to do anyway, they chose them for ease of operation, and not because their F40s are now worth more, so as values go up the hardcore guys who drive their F40s (like you) will likely still do so.
