impact wouldn't be of any significance really. Both objects traveling at nearly the same speed.

You can add Zhou's crash at Silverstone2022 after seeing the video and pics of his car the way it was stuck between the tire barriers and fencing.

    And Indycar today

(spoilers for those that weren't watching I guess?)

3 in the space of 12 or so ours that could have been a very, very dark day for motorsport.

While there is little doubt that the Halo is a big step forward in safety I'm getting a little tired of hearing how 'the halo saved a life today' every time there is a slightly bigger crash.

I find it difficult to believe that the moment the halo is introduced lives are being saved at a rate more than 10 times higher than the rate at which they were being lost in the 30 years before its introduction.

I think the burst-proof fuel bladder prevented more death and serious injuries than the halo.

The risk of fire in an accident has decreased significantly since its introduction.

    Absolutely.

It 100% saved the life of Grosjean in 2020, Nissany and Zhou yesterday. Zhou's rollbar hoop failed yesterday in the sliding and without the Halo the helmet at that speed would've quickly expired. The after slamming down from the fencing into the metal barrier holding the tyres back, it did it's job as well I think.

Other crashes are often used such as Leclerc in Spa and Lewis Monza last year but those 2 sans halo would still be fine. I do agree "halo saved X's life today" is very overused but these 3 instances absolutely made the difference.

Two potential fatal head injury accidents in one weekend? Highly unlikely. Historically speaking getting hit by lightning and winning the lottery in the same week is more plausible.

Again the Halo is a great thing and 100% saved Grosjean but its lauding for saving life after life on as regular a basis as it is is unfounded.

Yes I have and I also saw Martin Brundle walk away from this crash in Brazil 1994 which the 'experts' will claim up and down that he would have died from had the Halo not been there. (ignore the 'video unavailable' and click on the watch in YouTube to see it)

All I am saying is that the number of 'lives saved' claims since the Halo are in no way consistent with the number of deaths or serious injuries in the decades preceding it.

F1 has had 3 deaths last 28 years. Bianchi in 2014, Senna 1994, Ratenzberger 1994:: 0.1 per year.

Me thinks they are attributing "life Saving" to events where the driver would have only gotten "seriously banged up" Like when Rikkonen was upside down, or Hulkenburg went for a roll.

I know how to get the YouTube video.

Hey, 1 life saved with the Halo is enough no?? The more the better IMO.

I wouldn't compare the past to the present.

The HALO works. But after all these years they could have made it better looking.

I posted pics of a designer who made the Halo look or painted like the helmets of the drivers from an aesthetic yet purposeful reason. It looked cool IMO.

Agreed. Of the 3 deaths in 28 years none of them would have been saved by the Halo. That said it IS a very important advancement and even the saving of one life DOES make it worth it. Don't get me wrong I am in favor of it. My issue is with the tons of reported lives saved since it was introduced. Human nature I suppose.

De Villota possibly may have escaped? Could the Halo have deflected the ramp upward?
