Piquet hurled the slur twice and then called Hamilton a homophobic slur. I'm sort of three strikes and you're out type of person. Look, I get it - some people think this is okay behavior. That's fine. I'm for free speech after all. I'm not for any form of government sanction if you think racist and homophobic slurs are good. I do admit, if Ferrari, Leclerc, and Sainz all supported Piquet like you, that would make me conflicted, to say the least. I'm just glad it's the exact opposite *** Curious, assuming you are a Ferrari fan, knowing that both your drivers and team fundamentally disagree with you and fully agree with me - How does that make you feel? Any love lost for Ferrari?
I have a feeling if anyone notable in the F1 community called Sergio a Spic, Riccardo a Wop, Bottas a Chuckhna, Ocon a Surrender Monkey, Russel a Cracker, etc It would cause a stir. But then again, there are folks like you that seem to believe if Alain Prost calls Schumacher a Nazi publically, it would be a non-event. This is the world we live in. It's true, people live in diametrically different realities nowadays.
The difference here is that the powers that be don't have an understanding of the Brazilian Portuguese dialect. All those words you mentioned describing each driver given the Brazilian Portuguese dialect MIGHT be directly related to those words in the English language. That's the issue here, it's not the words but the Brazilian Portuguese dialect and how it translates to english AND WHO IS DOING THE TRANSLATION.
Can we all at least agree that saying Hamilton lost to Rosberg because he was probably busy taking it in the butt isn’t a good look for a grown man, and just move on? I feel like that’s something that would be said at a seventh grade lunch table.
Even Max, called the old man out, and he's dating his daughter. hahaha Russel, Ocon, Zhou, heck even Ricardo said anybody that holds your view is no friend of his. I mean, in the same exact podcast, same exact sentence, Piquet tripled down and called Hamilton a fudge packer. If there was any doubt about Piquet's interpretation, it was settled right there. I didn't know about the 'old guard' that Hambone mentions so often - I slowly starting to understand given Eccelstone also said last week that he would 'take a bullet for someone. *** This is all indicative of a larger concern. It's not what Piquet said that really scares people, it's that people are frightened that what happened to Piquet can so easily happen to them for behaving the same way. ...folks got cancel culture all wrong --- it's nothing new. Relative anonymity is what's new in human history. Throughout most of humanity, folks lived in communities where word gets around on what someone says or does. Say or do the wrong thing, and get 'shunned' by society. The internet and instant syndication now bring that 'village' we all inhabit called earth -much smaller eh? Shame is a powerful equalizer.
Max doesn't speak for me, or any other celebrity/person. I'm capable of forming my own opinion. ???? My view? My view that racism is bad? They're against that? Well, none of us saw that at the time of the comments, did we? I went by the direct translation of actual Brazilians rather than a story blown out of proportions from a bunch of people using google translate. Do that and you end up at the point that people actually want to cancel crayons, because they're incapable of comprehending what the word for the colour black is in Spanish (worlds 4th most common language). Petition · Remove the word "negro" from black crayons · Change.org I stand by original point, echoed by Brazilian Portuguese speakers, that piquets interview was malicious but not as directly racist as it would be as the google translation shows. FWIW I don't think anyone should be silenced, no matter their view. That way we can separate the idiots from the sane.
So, the thought is that Piquet WASN'T using a slur (slurs) or trying to be a DB, he was using terms that no one except certain FC members are smart enough to translate correctly? It's a "dialect" thing? Got it
Nobody translated correctly (according to you) anything here on FChat with regards to Nelson Piquet or the Brazilian Portuguese dialect. Get that straight.
You always have a chance to clarify. I’m a simple man. Either one agrees or disagrees with Piquet. what side do you fall on? Do tell. Why hide? I actually am of the thought people that like racist and bigoted speech need to be loud and proud about it; If it’s nothing wrong. Or even correct behavior why be ashamed of it? Fly those colors, the other side literally are. Let society decide which is in the “right,” I’m always comfortable with that notion. (Especially with each new generation.). Maybe that’s exactly the problem. I see that Piquet also likes to talk about the late Senna’s gayness too. So strange some people. I get the historical precedent. I mean some cultures say being gay is as serious as a capital crime, that and say working on Sunday.
No, it's worse than that. The actual Brazilian on this forum (@amenasce), according to Jimmy, does not speak his own language. Frankly speaking, that's an amazing revelation. I hope he can educate me on my Dutch next.
Consecutive seasons leading at least one lap ... ?? And when I mention "silly things" like podiums or WDC ranking ... I get accused of fabricating useless, irrelevant statistics
