Been saying that for years. Don't fix what ain't broke. Don't replace parts just because they are old.

Had a recent look at an SF90. Now I understand why 355s are getting the big bucks.

$150K was never going to happen on a manual GTS without an accident and with fairly low miles.

I think $235K for the 31k mile car on BaT.

Obviously I'm talking to the wrong crowd, but as much as I desire a F355 pricing above 458s is a little absurd. I get the "manual transmission/engagement" argument. But anything beyond that is subjective (looks) or a flat loss for the 355 (performance).
Sure, I still lust after the 355 (Hell, if it was about practicality, I'd be on a Porsche board). But as prices exceed $200 I gotta think there are other options in the F-car secondary market.

By that logic all older cars, Dino, 288, 250, F40 are over priced and one should but a 458 because looks are subjective as you say but the performance is better so that's the measure of price, performance? Well... let's all buy used Chargers with Scat packs and wear cammo caps.:p

You said it, Dino priced higher than a 458 is absurd cause the 458 is faster. Of course you could just be missing something. But everyone is entitled to their opinion, I respect that, no matter how wrong said opinion is. :)

50k+ mile Dinos cost more than 430 Scuds and 458 Speciales and are way slower and less rare. Horses for courses.

If you want a decently fast, manual transmission, V-8, mid-engined Ferrari, the only cheaper option is a 360 manual. And those are in the $150k+ range now. F430 manuals are $300k+.

    Just a matter of preference.

    I wouldn't trade my car for a 458

I guess I exclude the Dino (and the 308 for that matter) as too far removed from the discussion. I know it is hotly debated inside F-chat, but I am in the camp that the Dino is one of the best looking F-cars ever. Maybe "modern" Ferrari is the cut line I had in my head. The F355 and the 458 are standouts in the design department although I think the disdain for the 360 is fading with time.

I didn't write that looks were the only measure of a car. But both the 355 and 458 are significantly better looking designs than the cars that came between them. So, if one gave the 355 the nod in "engagement" (which most reviews do in comparison to the 360/430) it has an edge over the 458. I think we all agree that the 355 has already rebounded from it's lowest point of depreciation. I'm not sure 360/430 have.

I'm just hypothesizing that there is a logical ceiling for values seems to correlate with 458 prices. I agree if you factor in the emotion of the car logic goes out the window.

Good morning from sunny So. Cal. I've made a decision to put my 97 spider up for sale. Which venues do you recommend I check out?
    You suggestions are most appreciated.

    Thank you,

https://www.classic.com/search?q=F355 will give you a good idea of auction results depending on your spec.

I know there is one spider on BaT right now. You may want to follow that to get an idea. F-Chat classifieds will bring a smaller and better informed buyer pool without the auction fees (Just for consideration).

While this probably applies to the whole market, I'm sure other cars will be included in this like ours... especially since he is referencing cars near in the 100k price range.
In case anyone is wondering, demuro owns what I assumed is the number 2 car auction website so he's not guessing.

High reserve requests - There’s a lot of people that “would” sell but really don’t want to.

Well Doug, BaT and Colleen… as well of most of you are having a good laugh at my timing. Meh, oh well. Been advised by text that my style is offensive…. Meh, meh, meh

My sincere and heartfelt apology for any offense. No one has to say a thing in a for sale thread. But appreciate the kind words and support. As well as anyone that kept it short and sweet that said I am a fool. I knew that timing the market would terrible and on the downside. I do find it intriguing that I set a price and it seems so black and white, and by all means it is gray. But it is the best I have ever experienced in all facets of the mark. I plan on having it awhile. No doubt about it at this point in the season and global economy. The long hold is fine. Easy to do. Would not be any good in the market or in cash. We may have hit all time highs and it will soften…. May take years to ramp up again, but the best of the best can only get better. I can spend money on it, no problem. But I think that takes away the “spirit” of the car. Very special.

I wish I could share it with everyone in person on this forum. We all have special cars. People will want them. Just the same reason that most of you will not sell. My 355 Journey was to be a long term hold and it did not materialize….but 5 years later the journey has been worth it. I have a Spider I love and a collectible GTS that is nearly unmatched. Just have to keep my doors open at the shop [emoji2957]

Robb made a choice, I am sure it was tough, but the journey is still enjoyable for him. I enjoyed his perspective a few months ago at dinner. Sobering in some ways, but was great to spend time with a fellow owner and someone who has been a great steward of the mark.

These cars are some of the best you can own. The driving experience is the best. THE BEST! Cheers to all.

    Regarding Doug DeMuro and Cars&Bids:

    1. Cars & Bids ain't BringATrailer. Doesn't have the same caliber of cars, reach, or clout to maximize selling price. Just a minor comparison, C&B has 85k followers on Instagram. BAT has 320k followers. Not the same level. They need to build that reputation over time.

    2. If you've got something "special," there's no reason you should use Cars & Bids unless they are willing to set a high reserve. I'm going to assume listers are sending him BAT auction results to argue for a higher reserve. In the same token, C&B isn't BAT, so it can't generate the same results consistently.

    3. I'm assuming Doug made that post because he wants a higher rate of auction solds for revenue. If he wants to compete with BAT for higher caliber cars, he needs to meet listers' demands of higher reserves and live with the fact there's going to be a higher rate of unsuccessful auctions. When you are #2 or 3 or whatever, your negotiating leverage isn't there.

    4. All one needs to do is a quick search of Ferraris on C&B and it is clear as day most of the selection is ok. You'll hardly see something special. The type of cars he deals with is very general. So his comment is general to reflect his experience.

In short, if you've got something special, his comment doesn't apply to you. Less desired cars are going to take a hit first no doubt. Will it drag the rest of the market down with it?? I haven't seen strong evidence of that yet. You all should know by now exactly what in the Ferrari marque is desired and what is not.

This car is terrible reference point. I am the only person on this forum that has any love for the interior [emoji39]

    LOL

Also… I have heard of people buying on C&B and selling on BaT. No proof or validity, but heard it more than a few times [emoji2373]
