First off, congratulations on your new acquisition! These are special cars, and after 5 years of owning my 550 I still get the same thrill every time I get in it.

Yes, these are quite compact cars, not large at all, although they are fairly heavy. What is often not fully appreciated is the Maranello's 98.4" wheelbase is 4 inches SHORTER than an F430 at 102.4". That's a big reason, combined with an ultra-quick steering ratio, why these cars rotate so well for a heavy front engined car (and somewhat compensates for the heavy V-12 which puts a lot of its weight over the front axles).

Anyway, enjoy your new Maranello and welcome to the brotherhood!

Every time I switch from the 599 to 575 or 550 I am struck by how intimate the Maranello is. Feels so small and elegant. The 550 is coming home this afternoon after a few months of minor fettling and the excitement is palpable. Will be the first time the cars are all together in two years!

Looks like a very nice car. Though a Malaysia supplied RHD will always trade for less than a UK RHD here. 10-15% haircut for that.

still, prices for all these cars are lower in UK/Europe now than in the US.

Following auctions recently, the market for everything (other than real rarities) is softening in the face of a recession/economic adjustment here in the UK.

It's going to be an interesting year in every walk of life.

It looked like good value for money to me. £60K for a nice drivable example you can enjoy. A small price to pay for a V12 ferrari.

I don’t meant to sound overzealous, but when I went down the road for the first time I couldn’t believe how great the car feels, it was a bit shocking to be honest.

Current prices at autoscout24.com and mobile.de seem to point to rising prices inside EU. Cheapest ones are disappearing and new cars coming available seem to be 10-20k euros more expensive than before. Only very few cars remaining with under 100k asking price. Cheap LHD from UK start to make sense again even with tax wall around EU.

I've been offered quite a lot more for my Ferraris than I was when some here first started predicting that the market is softening, a couple of years back. Good cars of our vintage are up maybe 10-20 per cent since the start of the pandemic..

Maybe a recession is coming this time. Who knows!

So, reference 993 v 550 prices, new the 550 cost pretty much what a 993 turbo cost. The 550 about 150k in 1998, my 993T £125k in 1996 (it has a few factory goodies, but not an S which does have rarity on its side). Now, my 550 is worth c£80 with 35k miles and the 993 >£100 with 165k on it. (I was amazed re the 993 but so said someone in the trade far more expert than me). A 993T with 35k on the clock: maybe £150plus. So, why???

The 550 and the 993 are about similarly rare in the U.K. with RHD. The driving experiences are different but both are great cars. The Ferrari has huge cache of course. The 993 is bullet-proof: I’ve looked after mine but it’s never let me down in the 125k miles I’ve enjoyed in it. 993 values are more robust with high miles: goodness knows what the 550 would be worth(n’t!!) with 165k on the clock!

I suspect it’s down to two main things: 993’s deserved reputation for being a bullet-proof supercar and the irrationality of the the market. Personally, I think the 993 turbo is worth somewhat less than the 100% premium over a 550. I would put the reliability etc premium at one-third maybe. The rest is down to irrationality or maybe I’m being irrational in my assessment!! What is any old classic car actually worth?

Whatever they’re worth, just make sure you enjoy them!!’

Convince me that’s not almost the perfect garage. So many of us here have a very similar set up.

@p1turbo is one of my high mile heros with that combo!
