    First rejected take-off in the jet for real yesterday (as opposed to in the sim or training).

    Non-event, really. But still, an interesting experience.

    What do you mean by ‘rejected’? Is that a polite term for failed, or just weren’t cleared for takeoff?

    It means cleared for take off. Take off started, but rejected before V1 due to a technical fault with the aircraft.

    If you were a passenger, you’d feel takeoff acceleration for a period followed by engine power back and hard braking to stop on the runway.

    And then being offloaded to have a coffee or go to the toilet to change your undies.

    Well there’s a bit of excitement you could have done without… I’ve never heard of that term before. Was there an alarm that you reacted to or did the aircraft take over?

    The short version is the aircraft detected a fault after the auto-throttles commanded takeoff power and it then gave me an audible and repeated “autothrottle” call-out because for whatever reason the correct parameters weren’t reached.
    That was followed a couple of seconds later by a “No Takeoff” warning, at which point I rejected the takeoff by bringing the power back to idle. The aircraft automatically deployed the spoilers and I applied wheel braking.

    This all happened within a few seconds of the start of the roll and well before V1.

    No big deal, but interesting nonetheless.
