O'Ward takes pole from McLauglin. This qualifying session was more about who didn't advance from the their groups: Power, Newgarden, Palou and Rossi the most notable. And this is on a very tough circuit to overtake.

I guess Rossi assumes it’s OK to hit all your teammates in one race now that he’s going elsewhere next year?

Very competitive as always but today's race is like a 4th of July parade but not as good as the evening fireworks.

    Congrats to McLaughlin

Rossi ran Grosjean left and off the pavement into the grass and dirt. Once off you would think he would turn right to get back on the track. Instead he kept pushing Grosjean toward the barriers. Clearly intentional. Guess he has an ax to grind and his teammates are the ones he is punishing.

It seems like both Rossi and Grosjean are pretty good at causing their own problems. Not good.

Saw the video Rossi totally at fault, Andretti should fire him early to prevent further trouble.

it's happened before, usually with Ganassi (I think he had buyouts with both Zanardi and Montoya?)

but yes, very odd. I can't imagine wanting to leave Ganassi for the hot mess that is SP McLaren.

All these young dudes apparently have F1 as their ultimate goal. McLaren gives them exposure. But they still have to beat out the talent in F2, the traditional F1 feeder series, which is hard to do.

Zak Brown really wants a championship, has the pockets to get the talent, and doesn't mind pissing people off to do it. It's interesting that Rossi is leaving AA, not on the best of terms, to head to AMSP, but Michael is OK with Herta being part of the McLaren test program and experiencing F1. So Rossi had his shot at F1, and wont be going back, but Pato and Palou from he same team, and Herta from his old team, will all get to drive (last years) McLaren F1 car this year. From what I understand, although fierce competitors on track, Michael and Zak actually get on really well.

first, beat all the kids with daddy's $$$$ (Stroll Latifi etc)

second, beat all the kids in F2

third, beat all the kids in a driver academy with RB, Ferrari or Mercedes

fourth, beat the entrenched long time F1 stars (HAM, VET, ALO, etc)

or, stay in IndyCar and have a chance at actually winning something.

If Zak really wants to win a championship he needs a core group of team principal, chief engineer and driver that remain static for 3-5 years and can build from there. perpetual musical chairs and rumor mill nonsense doesn't work (that's generally universal across all sports, not just racing)
