Is anyone else getting these sustainability surveys from Ferrari? They are asking a lot of questions about environmental stuff etc. To me the surveys seem stacked and it was hard to represent my actual view because of the way they set it up. I basically was like no, I don't give a bleep about making the cars pollute less, or social justice or a lot of other stuff they asked about. I just want them to make V12s into the future, end of story.

    :)

"Tree-Hugging World" = Beautiful tree-lined roads where the trees beautifully mark the braking points and apex entry/exit points of the turn and then whiz by as you work through the gears - might they be gated with a 3rd pedal or milliseconds via a paddle and accelerate to the next tree-lined turn using the force of 6/8/12 magically-synchronized cylinders burning fuel and air or a wonderfully-constructed battery providing thrust to all four wheels - or a combination of the two - and a Prancing Cavallino in all scenarios -

Believe me I would have thrown up in my mouth writing that prior to driving a 296 :) :)

    Got it too.
Total b.s. and I find this a real harassment.
They send these stupid surveys so that they can officially declare we do care and we do something.......

It certainly seemed like the deck was stacked in favor of some environment bs over making great cars.

It's not like a speaker. It's similar to say an aftermarket exhaust in concept. Which I brought up in the past as well.
If folks are against this, to be consistent, they should see anything other than straight pipes as an anathema.

The rebuttal is that it is fake.

    you know like this:

At least Luca made sure to add some brake ducts on the sides in the F355 to make it 'less fake' - but still 'faux' nonetheless.

Now, I'm not saying I like fakery - on contrary. I simply saying that the holy cow was slaughtered a long time ago.

I'm sorry I'm not following. Based on the latest capital markets day presentation...are they not planning on having a V12? I must have missed it.

    ***

I get it, when Hybrid / Electrical first came out, I was like - hell no. Who would want to sacrifice performance on the alter of P&R (that other folks keep bringing up)

But are all these 'environmental' whinges making the latest Ferrari perform worse or less thrilling?

I still have not had a single person explain to me why the SF90 is slow, the 246 not fun, and the La Ferrari both sleepy and a slag.

I do see folks bringing up towing, MPG, CO2, safety, surveys, trees, etc

    ***

Seems to me folks are mixing up one topic (P&R) with another. I have my assertions obviously on why people are behaving this way, I'm just making sure I didn't miss anything.

My thesis is simple. I think macro P&R is coloring folks' objective view on hybrid and electrical cars.

    It's not new.

I remember when incandescent bulbs were going to be banned. I was pissed. The new bulbs were expensive, slow to light up, bulky, heavier, and had some funky color tone, you had to clear the room if they broke, and they often didn't come in the size/port you needed!

    What the hell right?

    ***

But the latest LEDs? cheaper, faster, compact, every color tone you could want, lighter, hard to break, and come in more shapes/sizes than incandescent ever offered. That they can be wi-fi enabled? (icing on the cake)

Yet in this very thread, I'm not joking - you have a guy saying incandescent is superior in every way.

What you just said is nothing new.

    Fiat
    Turbo
    Fuel Injection
    Traction Control
    Gated
    ABS
    Digital Cluster
    Brakes
    Power Steering
    Catalytic Converters
    PF
...(the list can go on and on)

You're right, Ferrari is a different company today. Guess what? I will be a different company next year. 10 years after that.

    **So what's scalding my crotch?**
Well, if it wasn't obvious by now, let me make it ultra-clear.

I love Ferrari. I will defend it when folks that I consider have no clue are saying it's crap.

I will admit, I didn't know so many here were ready to eat their own.

You are defending something that no longer exists.
    There is only the name!
There is only one V 12 left in the catalog, and the Roma, because all the rest are only disposable products.
Do you really think that one day we will restore a 296 like we restore a 308 ???
But I respect your choice !

Ferrari doesn't exist today? I must have missed the bankruptcy announcement.

    I think 50 - heck 100 years from now, somebody will have a pristine 296 just like 125 S.

    **

If it wasn't clear by now, I'm not saying folks have to love or even accept the latest cars. That would be ludicrous.

But folks that hate them have not given me one single objective reason outside P&R

    Isn't that telling?

I take that back ^^^ Some folks did also mention safety, towing, and poor mileage.

Oh, and that they perform 'too well.' Can't forget that one.

308's haven't always been desirable and you could pick them fairly cheaply. I think the 296 is great and when people start to experience them, they will see that they are true Ferrari performance, light and nimble, under 1500kg and over 800hp. I'll take the GTS :)

Funny :) But the kerb weight of a 296 is 1,470 kg which I believe is under 1,500 kg, correct? And the battery is 77 kg and 7.45 kWh, but I understand what you are trying to say.

I know everything is heavier over there :)

Ferrari, like any company changes with the times or risks becoming extinct. I’m not saying that is good or bad, it just is. It is the most storied marque in automotive history and it’s current leaders are well aware of it and are trying their best to make the best of the current and future regulations thrust upon them and maintain the thread of Ferrariness as best as possible. We as admirers and customers either support or not support the brand as we see fit.
Would We all love a 1200kg carbon fiber 850hp V12 midengine regular production screamer with La Ferrari (I’ll take a Berlinetta Boxer myself)rivaling looks with 1/4 mile time of 9.6 seconds and a Ring time of 6 min 45 seconds selling for $500K? Absolutely! Make mine Nero and my wife will take it in Canna de Fucile. Ferrari could make as many as is physically possible and it would take 10 years to fulfill the orders it received in the first 10 minutes
But unfortunately it ain’t happening [emoji17]

If you believe the weight values announced by Ferrari, you might as well say that it's safer to believe the promises of a politician ! :D
