Just spit-balling, but with the dollar/euro at about parity, I find myself perusing car sale websites from overseas...how involved/difficult/costly would it be to import a car from Europe? Anybody here done it, care to share cliff notes or experiences? I did do a quick search but didn't find an answer.

Pretty much looking at things like 328 GTBs, early Lotus Elises, etc., nothing newer that needs to be federalized or anything. Just looking to get an idea of what the process is. Not looking to jump right away, just looking for info/experiences.

Where does the $15K come from?

For comps sake, I’m paying about $1500-2000 per vehicle coming in on a boat from Japan, all in about $2500-3K total per vehicle, this includes insurance, freight and brokerage line item fees etc etc etc. + the 2.5% or 25% (for “trucks”) based on invoice price of whatever vehicle.
Do you have some one over there handling transaction and paperwork to get it to a shipping port?
If so, on the US side happy to share my broker info down in NY/NJ, they’d handle everything on arrival and this side. The short of it timeline wise is
Purchase agreement for car over there, pay it
Broker over there arranges port drop off and will then send ocean liner info, all docs to you OR your broker here
Wait for arrival. They send notice of arrival +2-3 days before it hits stateside port
    Arrange pickup at port here
Ship car to your home with all paperwork etc
    voila

    Great to know, thanks man.

Really just mulling things over, not sure if I'm in a place to do anything, I'd likely have to sell something first; however, there's some cool cars that are more available in Europe than here, it's only the favorable difference in exchange rate that has me going hmmmm...how hard would this be?

you are probably shipping on a roro.
i had containers for the ferraris, and the numbers were about 6-8k per car plus the duty, back in 2019.
with current price hikes on containers etc, i doubled that price as my estimate for what it will cost today.
if it is less, then congratulations ! :)

Just bought a 348 tb from Holland a few months ago. Should be at my home on 28th. Used Schumacher shipping. Was relatively painless.

I’m curious if anyone who imported a 25Y+ car ended up selling it afterwards and if there is generally a discount vs market due to the provenance ?

That's model and age specific. The newer the car yes typically there is a bit of a discount. But if the car is a stud. It doesn't matter. Also it just depends on how difficult it will be for most to register in their state. It just elimantes buyer pool.

Just because the feds say you can bring it in doesn't mean it will pass local emissions
