Speedo left or right

Hello together,

I‘m in the market for a 308 GTS right now. During my search I usually encountered the speedometer on the left side as I’d expect (US & EU).
However, there was one example with the speedo on the right side. Can anyone tell me for which models that is the case?

I looked through the examples on http://308-328.com/, but this variant isn’t mentioned.

Would suspect that someone put it back together backwards. Maybe personal preference?

That is a very legitimate question

They are correct. Everything else on the car is actually quite good and very well documented - that’s a little peculiar to me.

 

I know of a couple of cars modified that way because the owner liked it better.

I‘ll chalk it up to personal preference of the owner or a mistake from some shop (which I believe to be unlikely).

 

Very likely removed and then badly reinstalled or switched on request.

Or maybe all the panel was taken from a RHD car.

Here in Italy all have the speedometer on the left side.

Looking at a shed load of 3*8 GTB/GTS dashboard pictures from various sites, my findings are, with both the 308 and 328 models, from the factory, the speedometer should be on the door side of the binnacle, and the rev-counter should be on the gearstick/centre console side.

So:

For a LHD car, the speedometer should be on the left, and the rev counter on the right.

For a RHD car, the rev counter should be on the left, and the speedometer on the right.

As with everything Ferrari, and the factory workers from "back in the day" though, it cannot be guaranteed that this clock layout convention was followed 100% every time - There is always a possibility that the occasional car might have left the factory with the clocks fitted the opposite way around to what was usual.

 

RHD cars are like that.. at least mine is

 

Ferrari placed the tachometer on the sight line from the driver's eye to the mid of the road: so the tacho is on te left on the LHD cars and on the right on the RHD cars.

This was the rule they followed, but maybe some Nation had specific and different rules, I don't know.
