And those collectors keep to themselves and are a dying breed. Few collectors don't drive the market see "Boxers are undervalued".

The kids at DQ are young and impressionable. They play video games (yup, the Testarossa is still featured in modern games and they customize them). Just because they confused a car model doesn't make them future car people or buyers.

So to summarise, you believe that those who buy a 512BB know it's Champagne, where as those who buy a Testarossa just think it's Champagne when in fact it's just cheap fizzy wine. Wow. I'll keep my opinion of your statement to myself I think!

dont get all sensitive now girls :)
i own both cars, and have done so for more than 22 years for the 512tr and more than 13 years for the 512bbi.
i have driven the pants off of both of them in 7 different countries, tracked them, taken them on the targa florio and giro di sicilia, and now have them with me in Houston, so believe me, i have had ample time to observe people's reaction to both cars, in many places over a long time.

all that being said, our family owns more than 25 cars, and some very expensive ones among them, and yet, as i have often said on this site, the 512tr is my very favorite of them all.

it is nevertheless true, that the cars appeal to different demographics, and i believe i have correctly described them from my perspective.
if you dont like the movie analogy, then think of it as picassso vs monet, or bauhaus vs art nouveau, etc one is not necessarily better than the other, the appreciation is in the eye of the beholder, and each beholder is coming at the object from a different angle.

or are you just trying to make it a boring popularity contest?

I have loved Testarossas since I was a toddler and been my dream car for decades...

...and even I must admit the TR is much more "rock star' then the alternative 70s Euro "new wave" BB.

Nothing wrong with that at all. The 550/575 (also one of my favorite cars) is also so much more subdued in comparison.

    BB is dripping with beauty.

You want a congratulations on being rich? :D

I read your "512TR is my favorite" many times on this site. It is your biggest contribution. Please go back to this instead of your tacky analogies of Marilyn Monroe, wine and cinema.

Boring popularity contest? No, I'd rather have a conversation on the subject. But without you trying to pull rank as a fallback.

I think this is a very important point. I'm 43. Those of us in our 40s who can afford these cars are very lucky. When our cohort is in their 50s and 60s, I expect there will be a much larger market for these cars, and that values will go up accordingly.

larger market means to me smaller prices because to many cars on the market? or you mean larger market for more people who like to buy? then the prices will go up.

I bought my 512 BB and my competition 20 years ago with 47. now the BB is worth minimum 3 times more and the competition I would not sell below 4 times higher because I put so much new, stronger stuff into the car.

He has sourced the part already and it's included in the sale. He has a video on YouTube about the car and the sale. Dennis is an expert so I'm highly confident of the mechanical condition of the car.

I'm a professional marketer, so my definitions of "market" might be more esoteric than most.

To me the "market" is like a literal market. The more shoppers there are in the market, the easier it is to sell your goods, all things being equal.

"Demand" would have been a better word. As 80s kids enter their 50s and have more disposable income, demand for these cars will go up. Right now only the most fortunate of 80s kids can afford them, but as we get older there will be more 80s kids with enough money to play this game, and it will heat up accordingly. That's my hypothesis.

Here's a less intellectual but (maybe?) equally valid hypothesis: history repeats itself. First 1960s Ferraris went through the roof. Then 70s -- remember when no one wanted a Boxer? The 80s are next. Every V12 Ferrari eventually becomes very valuable as long as it has only two seats. History has been very consistent on that, and there's no reason to think 80s cars will be different.

This is speculation, of course. I did bet US$130k that I'm right. We'll see.

there is a lot to be said for this theory, and it is largely applicable to the usa market. which may be one reason why the BB never took off in the same way - it was not officially imported and although it was briefly deemed the fastest production car in the world, it was not necessarily on posters and imaginations in the same way that the testa became - especially when Don Johnson started driving one in Miami Vice.

and an additional thought....i bet the same younger or non-car people who somehow dont rate the bb, dont know what a miura is either....

Except for the 250 PF Coupe, which has seen the prices for them remain virtually unchanged in the last 7 years.

I submit that it could be one of the “safest” acquisitions one could make without tipping well into the 7-figure range.

And it still is. They need to "bomb" that thing to get at the stuff you can't see.
And the seller said the car had been detailed. Funny.

One of the more significant moves recently has been quite a few TR's reaching parity with the BB.

One BB I checked out, the owner was selling to buy his "last" new Ferrari.

I think the BB will get a bounce though. If you can get a TR for half the price, it's an easy choice.
If they're close or the same, you'll think twice.

Expected market value can play a part also. If you can get a very nice BB or a 512M for about the same,
you might go for the latter even if you'd prefer a carb car.
