1997 F355 5.2 Parking Lights Wiring Diagram

Hello,

First post here. I just purchased a 97 Spider 6sp (US) and the right rear parking light doesn't work (outer lens). The right turn signal on the same connector/bulb does work. There's no power to the parking light wire at the connector for the bulbs. All the fuses are good and all the other lights on the front and rear of the car function normally.

Does someone have or know where I can find a wiring diagram that shows where the wiring harness runs through the chassis so I can trace where the break in the wiring is?

Crescent, do your right hand rear parking/side lights work when you use the PARK switch on the centre console?

As your front RH parking light is ok, we can assume there is power at the RH sidelights/parking lights fuse on the forward luggage compartment fuse panel. From the frunk fuse panel, the wiring goes through the bulkhead into the cabin and across to the passenger footwell fuse/relay panel. The wires go in on one plug ("A", yellow wire, pin 9) and out on another ("D", yellow wire pin 3). To access the plugs, you'll have to drop the fuse panel (tilt it so it's accessible). The panel is held in with one bolt (and two locating pins).

From the passenger footwell, the wires go beneath the centre console and branch left/right after the engine firewall to their respective tail light assemblies. There are no disconnects between the relay panel and the tail.
There will be splices for the tail and rear quarter panel lights, but Ferrari never tell you where they are. Does your RH rear quarter panel marker light work?

First, thank you Ian for the help, I really appreciate it! This is my first Ferrari and I'm loving it. Just trying to iron out some of these little things that aren't working.

If I turn on the parking lights using the stalk on the steering column or the push button on the center console, the results are the same. All the lights work as they should except the right rear parking light.

Actually, no. I didn't know they were supposed to until you mentioned it. In fact, the quarter panel lights on both sides do not work. However, there's no guarantee the bulbs are good since I didn't know to check them. I can take a look in a few hours and report back.

PS: The yellow marker lights on the fenders do work on both sides.

 

Did you change the bulbs or are you talking about the front fenders?

If your rear quarter marker lights do now work after a bulb change, there may be a problem with splice [30067] (see diagram). I'd say the splice would be be fairly close to the rear quarter panel light, perhaps around the secondary air pump area. I thought I had a photo of it, but I can't find it.

 

I didn't change any bulbs. Yes, I meant the front fender side marker lights, the yellow rectangular ones are working on both sides.

I just took a look at the rear quarter side marker lights. The driver side bulb was burnt out. I replaced it and it works now. The passenger side one doesn't work, even with a new bulb.

So, as it sits now, the parking light on the passenger side rear outer most tail light doesn't work and the passenger side quarter panel side marker light doesn't work.

I'll take a look at the splice and see if I can come up with anything. I appreciate your help! And thanks for putting in all that time to create that electrical diagram! That must have been a lot of work; I'm sure the whole community appreciates it, thank you.

 

Despite the rear right hand side quarter panel still not working, there still could be a problem with that splice. Is the rear of the light visible or is it behind plastic panels? You may be able to trace the wiring from the rear quarter light panel to the splice.

Unfortunately, because you have just bought the car, you don't know what has been disturbed in the past. An engine out may have broken some wiring if the rear bumper was removed. Unfortunately, all the wiring in the forward luggage compartment and the passenger footwell is hard to get to. There is no simple way of getting to the connectors.

Other than looking for that splice, I think I would start with the passenger footwell panel. That breaks the wiring run in half. Don't disconnect the relay panel plugs (they are hard to remove sometimes), just backprobe them with a voltmeter (with ignition and lights on). (EDIT: I see you're going to have problems getting the door to open wide enough to access the relay panel)

I've slightly modified my wiring diagram to relocate that splice closer to the lights. Also, I've added some clearer lines to help you follow the wiring.

I don't have a full picture of the relay panel, but I've added some notes on this photo to help you remove the relay panel (if required)

Only remove the bolt on the right, then slide the panel towards the door to get the locating pins out of the holes. Don't remove those nuts on the left hand side.
With the carpeted centre console "saddle" in position, it may be difficult to understand what is going on.

You may have to remove some other small components to drop the panel down (tilt from the bottom).

 

Ok, I did some probing around today. The passenger rear tail light harness goes from the tail lights through the firewall. I can’t tell if there’s any splices as the wiring is inside a loom.

Probing the footwell fuse panel, there’s some discrepancies with your wiring diagram.

There’s no power to A9 and D3 when I switch the parking lights on and off. You can also see that the wire colors are different. A9 is grey/blk stripe, whereas and D3 is yellow.

I probed every pin on the fuse panel and the only pin that switches on/off with the parking lights is D7 yellow/blue stripe (highlighted in the photo) which is the driver side parking light according to your diagram and that light does work.

I also checked for continuity from the taillight connector parking light wire (yellow) to the fuse panel D3 (yellow wire) and there is continuity, so we know there's no break in the wiring. However, there is no continuity between A9 and D3.


Not sure where to go from here.

PS: I also checked Fuse #13 in the frunk (labeled RH Park L Parking) and there is power. So, it appears there's a break between the fuse in the frunk and the fuse panel in the foot well (and/or the break between A9 and D3)

Pin 1 is yellow/black (not shown in this diagram)
Pin 2 is yellow/red (fuse 12 power) i.e. instrument lighting power and number plate lights.
Pin 3 is yellow i.e. RH sidelights
Pin 4 is red i.e. brake light switch

Assuming your instrument lighting is working, you seem to be doing your checks incorrectly. Did you turn on your ignition and lights during the voltage checks?

 

Sorry, I realized I was doing it wrong and I just updated/edited the post with the correct pin numbers and results.

 

The original diagrams show G - 1 (yellow). I'm not sure why you have a grey/black stripe. The closest to that seems to be pin 7 which has a white/black wire.

This sounds bad. Make sure you have pin 9 on plug A.

 

I tried to physically check the wires on my car a few years ago and created this graphic of plug A. Some of the stripe colours were hard to see, but pin 9 was definitely yellow.

Lol! Ok, probing the actual A9 (it is a yellow wire now), there's no power when I switch the parking lights on and off. So there must be a break between the frunk fuse panel F4 and the foot well A9.

I'm tempted to just jump D7 and D3 and call it good.

 

Did you look at the F connector on the back of the frunk fuse panel?

There might be some corrosion on the pins?

 

Yes, I probed F4 (yellow wire) and there is power there. I think jumping D7 and D3 is the simplest solution.

 

I just rechecked your pin/plug numbers. F-4 is for the front RH lights. You need to check I-5 (yellow/black wire)

Are you sure? According to your diagram, I5 goes to A6, not A9. Regardless, I5 (yellow/black) does have power and switches on/off with the parking switch. So does F4.

 

LOL... I got my left and right hand mixed up. I think we are both confused.

D3 is connected to A-9 on the footwell relay panel which is connected to H-1 on the frunk panel.

H-1 is connected to fuse 13. So is F-4.

For continuity checks, you'd have to check between H-1 and A-9
