I agree with this comment - I’d probably take a Boxer over my GT4. But from everything I have read the GT4 drives better and is way easier to live with/DIY, so some may have different priorities..

Like Sheehan (ferraris-online) said: Just because the restoration was $x, doesn't mean the car is worth $x.
As you likely know since you met the seller, it went for more than they were expecting also.

Some great details on the car, and to be commended for returning the bumpers to original and not overdoing other things, but also some strange choices.

Changing the interior carpet color was bizarre, considering the loss of originality and that the original color really opens up the GT4 cabin beautifully
    with the Pelle Sabia seats.

Ideally you'd want Robert Garven's Naples car, but I doubt he's selling.

Alternatively, how about an Euro model in exceptional condition for half price?

    Correct. But ...

The compromise is an excellent GT4 and TR for $225k. Ticks both boxes.

All true in your response. For me, I need to be inside a clean well maintained interior. Just what makes me happy. Mostly correct, or tastefully improved. For example, that car had the cats removed and euro cam put in, on top of other small changes. Otherwise wouldn’t have wanted a 79.

So to answer your question….something super clean inside and out. Running flawlessly. And a light colored interior. (Blue over cream is the pinnacle for me). But for real world prices, the options open wide up.

Any higher power spec is fine with me.

Do you have something in mind?

Agreed on all points, particularly the interior. If you like that BB interior I posted above you'll like this one.
    I'll send you a PM.

I get what you're saying, and the 512BB is a very cool car. But looking at it from a longevity standpoint, "living" with the car for potentially the rest of my life, the 308 GT4 wins every time. I don't want the hassle or maintenance cost associated with the 512BB, nor would I want the impracticality of it. I think it really boils down to what you want the car for, what you plan to do with it. I drive my 308 GT4 regularly, and it's probably the best driving vintage Ferrari you're going to find.

Even though I'm shocked, and still somewhat in disbelief, I think this may be the world we live in now. A well sorted 308 GT4 is as much as a 512BB. I agree, that's weird, but that seems to be the reality these days.

Yep - I'm one of those folks! I do love the 512BB, it's amazing, I've even had the opportunity to drive one. But I would not own it over my GT4.

Sure I love my Testarossa, but the GT4 is a lot of fun to drive. Makes better noises, more nimble, less likely to scrape the front. I have taken "Non Car" people for rides in both and they don't always understand the Testarossa is the more valuable car. One even asked why the Testarossa was so low.

Well one has a flat 12 F1 engine and the other doesn’t, so that’s where the argument ends with me! Wring the nuts on a Weber Carb’d BB and you’ll have a religious experience :)

    Guys,

Does anyone know where that car went to? My car passed smog several times but it was like prison rape. I could list all the problems encountered but I don't wanna bore you guys. Personally I don't like the later GT4's. I really don't like the sunroofs, the goofy airbox, extra smog stuff, later diaper etc. That car did look nice but I can't see myself buying a Ferrari that's not red. For me it's the Italian racing color.

I have a good friend with a boxer and I had it in my garage for several weeks when I worked on it. I really love that car too, but once again trying to find one thats a 75 or earlier you're talking about a 365 which are really cool because of three exhaust pipes, and rear lights, but they're pretty rare. I love the boxer and would not want to have to decide between the two especially a 365BB!!

On a separate note did anyone get an email from Hagerty, the day after that car sold I got an email saying I need to raise my values! ha I loved when the car was worth 30,000 because my insurance was only $200 a year!!! ha

I think the price you're looking for is PRICELESS.

Ferrari dealer: Yeah, Testarossa's, cool stuff, old school.

Client: But my favorite is the GT4.

Ferrari dealer: You're a lucky guy, that's the cheapest Ferrari.

I did not, but I wonder if I would have if I had waited?

I think my '75 was always under insured. When the red one sold for $141,000 back in April, I thought then I should probably increase my insurance as mine was only insured at $100k (which at the time I did that, I thought that was insane as it was double what I paid for it). But seeing this blue car sell for $220k has made me realize I needed to do it.

My car falls neatly in-between these two as far as condition, and it's a rare color to boot. It's weird to think my car is worth that much, but that's what the market is showing. I doubled my insurance almost immediately when the auction closed because I had already been putting it off for the past three months. These cars only seem to keep going up in value.

    Chris,

well the 246's are 400-800K... I don't ever plan on selling them so it doesn't really matter to me, maybe I'll trade one for a boxer! HA

Same—don't ever plan on selling. But, if I were to suffer a total loss (wrecked, stolen, whatever), I want to make sure I could buy another one! :)

One of the big differences in the experience between a BB and a GT4 is the cabin space and glass area. I get claustrophobic in a BB, especially if it has a black interior. The GT4’s greenhouse really opens up the cabin. It reminds me of my 330GTC in that respect.

Is there a possibility I would sell mine after 21 years? Hmmm. I’m not sure anyone deserves it. The care and actual sweat and grief of the restoration is immeasurable IMO. I don’t like how people open the doors , get in and out, lift the hood etc. this car knows me. I might up the insurance though. . Rant over

Funny. My dealer laughs at me. I show up in my former euro 360 spider that I bought on eBay during Covid for 64k. In an event full of F8/812 owners they don’t even look at my car. Then my sales guy say but you should see his TM GTS. And his F8 and 16m and…

I started chatting with a guy at the local charity car event about his black Mondial spider - nice guy obviously a CAR guy. I asked about his and told him about my fathers Mondial and my former Mondial cab. Turns out he has a Dino, 365 Daytona spider etc etc. Legit guy. Loves the cars like me. Has a place here in Florida and in NY. Most cars there. Car lover.

If I had the strength of character I’d go with your friend and have a GT4 and a 375/512 bb. That’s the moment I fell in love with Ferrari. Now that I have a GT4 project I’m getting there. Maybe I’ve finally got to the point in my life where I’m living for me and not others perception of me. I am more excited about my GT4 project than my SF90 spider on order. Nothing against the new ones but the old ones are attached to who we were and not prestige or status.

Interesting. Every cars and coffee I go to people leave all the modern fcars and exotics to see my Dino. I can’t seem to walk away sometimes.
