When I returned from a six week holiday, my F430 battery was as flat as a pancake. The car had been on a Ferrari trickle charger the whole time.
Diagnosis from the main dealer was that battery was completely dead and would never come back to life. They replaced it.
My question is what caused it? Was it the trickle charger that failed or the battery. Now I know that if a battery gets so flat with nothing left in it that it can cause the battery to be scrap.
Or, is my charger not doing it's job? Is there a way I can test it? If I plug it in, the orange light on it does come on.
    Any help gratefully received.

Phil - sorry to hear bro. Happened to mine as well over the winter. F430 OEM Trickle charger is POS. Buy an aftermarket CTEK or Battery Tender brand. Even though the OEM one is a CTEK, for some reason it just doesn't work. What kinda battery did you have? AGM or Wet? Wet batteries can spring back to life easy but AGM's are a bit dicey.

Buy a CTEK charger/tender and install the adapter to fit in the factory plug or install a pigtail to the battery near the passenger footwell and buy a Battery Tender make charger/tender..thats what I have right now and no issues.

    Good Luck

Don't be too quick to blame the charger. How old was the battery? Usually after 5 years, the battery will need to be replaced. With that being said, I use a newer CTEK rather than the Ferrari charger, which by the way is a CTEK, but just old.

Timely post since I was having the same issue. I just purchased the 4.3 from Amazon this week for $55 bucks. Received it yesterday and looks to be a great charger. I will hook up the pigtails this weekend. Good thing I also purchased the extension cable since the pigtail was rather short in length.

The Ferrari batter charger should be given the same level of usefulness as the Ferrari toolkit. Just wrap it up and put in a closet. As others stated, get a Ctek, Deltran battery tender or my current favorite, Granite Battery Saver
Granite Digital - Save A Battery

They offer several models from $50 to $130. They come with really long cords which is handy too. I learned about them from a post by Rifledriver (Brian Crall). Using the instructions found elsewhere on this forum, I made a simple adapter to connect to the input jack under the dash on the passenger side.

I appreciate all the great information guys. Out of curiosity, is there any way the Ferrari charger can be tested. It is the OE one that came with the F430.

    Hello F-Chat,
I own a 2008 Ferrari F430. My OEM BATTERY TENDER not sure if it’s working . Battery is fine on the car and relatively new. When I plug I the middle “red light” goes on. Which I’m assuming battery is charging. If the car has been sitting a bit, would it take a while for the light indicator to turn to “green”? Been awhile since I’ve used my battery tender, as I start car once a week, and try to drive once a week. Appreciate the help. Let me know.

It is doing its job .. the longer it stays in the middle light the sooner you will need a new battery

Use on all my cars including 458 Spider (factory one is junk despite the sexy plug under the dash)- This works flawlessly- charges quickly- maintains safely-

Some Ferrari trickle chargers are a bit borderline on output and dont keep up with the system drain. UK cars have trackers which makes it worse. Any trickle charger with a bit more output is fine, the CTEK is overpriced and no better. Mine is plugged into a timer so it only cuts in for part of the day

Maybe late to the game, but for realz... click this: https://www.batterysaver.com/store/p78/2365-lcd.html

Perhaps they spend less on advertising than other brands, or perhaps they don't have the same Euro-esque name. Whatever. IMHO, it is a superior product in every possible way.

Thanks for the responses. Isn’t there an adapter that would plug into an aftermarket charger, that plugs under dash? Like factory. I believe I’ve seen that. I don’t want to complicate this just want any charger that recommends working. Battery tender that trickle charges battery, conditions, so the car doesn’t have issues. Because off charger, is an issue typically. Like to spend $100 or less U.S. and buy adapter, to plug under dash. Send me any links you have for that type. Appreciate the help.

If you don't want complicated just go get the batterysaver like Ricambi America suggested. Pretty much the same one as I have and hook it up directly to the battery and you're done. Easy-peasy 10 minutes to hook it up to your battery. And you can also hang the unit on the wall

I bot a ctek 5.0 and an adapter .. the adapter is ridiculously pricey..but it is a nice way

Sometimes someone will have a broken Ferrari charger and will sell it and you can salvage the adapter

Here is just a sample of adapter being sold

Get the Duracell branded charger from Costco...its inexpensive and from my testing so far, works well. It makes a nice addition to my Save A Battery charger I have as well. The adapter you can buy either from online or make your own. Just make sure it has the SAE style plug to adapt to any brand battery tender other than Ctek which uses a special plug of their own.

    DIY (kumari.net)

I made my own following the instructions above, and used an SAE plug so it works with my battery tenders. I don't use Ctek.

I saw an article about a guy who screwed a plug in adapter into one of the two lightbulb sockets on his garage door opener. Since it was used at least twice and sometimes multiple times per day, he knew he was getting a 4 to 5 minute charge a couple times a day. But none of this is really necessary, as all modern battery tenders are microprocessor controlled and taper off to a very tiny charge rate once the battery has reached full charge. So low it is not going to damage the battery.
