https://www.motorsport.com/f1/news/oscar-piastri-alpine-2023-alonso/10347858/ Interesting no comment from Piastri or his management .
That reminds me of the Jenson Button situation, when he was contracted to Williams, but prefered to drive for Renault.
Szafnauer, Alpine principal, claims to have spent a lot of money for Piastri practicing on last year's car in view to prepare him for next year. Rumours has it that the Australian would have been "loaned" to Williams in 2023, but Alonso's departure changed the deal. Szafnauer seems really intent on enforcing Aston's claim. It will be interesting to see how Mark Webber will now extract his compatriot from Alpine's clutches. A lot of money may have to change hands!
Alpine may end up being the big loser in this, unless they get compensation for the money spent in training Piastri this year.
No, now I actually think it will be Pierre to Alpine...but Ocon would not welcome him so it would be hard to control like Ocon Perez at Force India...it would be a very competitive pairing though. Meanwhile Laurent Rossi got spanked twice in 24 hours; first by Fernando and then by Piastri, love it, Prost must be laughing after the way he treated him.
