Yes but then it was a true 2+2, I remember being comfortable in the back seat of my father's 09 GTS. It would be sad if the new one isn't a true 2+2.

well the camouflage work well in those photos. I can't tell very much about the car's appearance. It's barely recognizable as a Maserati!

 

Just got an invite to a private showing of the new GranTurismo at Monterey weekend

 

Can't wait to hear what you think about it and a good physical description of what you will see as I'm sure no photos will be allowed. Take a lot of notes about the exterior and interior as no-one will stop you from writing down about what you will see.

 

90% that I won’t be going to Monterey.

 

To be honest, all these stupid camouflage pictures are so annoying that I'm already disgusted with the new Granturismo. Maserati is doing a lousy job here. Because everything is already clear; on the outside the new one will look like a facelift version of the predecessor and on the inside it will look more or less like the Grecale. Maserati is already playing the game too long and too badly, I think they have already lost me as a potential buyer.

I watched something this morning talking about now that the Ghibli has been cancelled so has the V8?
So what's going to power the Granturismo for the ICE variant?

 

Wouldn't the V6 out of the MC20 be a likely candidate? I'd think it wasn't developed only for mid-engine applications.

 

I suppose but that NA V8 made such lovely sounds. Ignoring the fact that it was manufactured by the most expensive automotive supplier on the planet, I'd bet that Maserati could manufacture that much simpler engine for far less than that V6? Though Alfa puts a similar complex V6 in their platform for non stratospheric prices.

 

The V8 is effectively dead, the Granturismo comes with the Nettuno V6, engine performance roughly on par with the MC20.

I was told by my dealer a few months ago that the new one will look like a simple facelift of the old one. Well then, he was right.
I think Maserati has made a big mistake with the "new" Granturismo, in which they have oriented themselves too much to the design of the predecessor. Yes, the predecessor is a beautiful car. And yet its design is over 15 years old. This golden electric thing now looks like a cross between the 2013 predecessor and a Jaguar F-Type. And the rear end they have stolen from Porsche...
I hope another miracle happens, but I think that's it.

 

Isn't it more a case of normalizing the look of the car in a way that let's them not have to build it in the Modena factory? Like the QP5 I think the older Granturismo styling will remain more desirable.
I'm not so sure where they're going with all of this. The MC20 is looking like it's a design and manufacturing hit but they can't build enough of them. Perhaps that's not such a bad thing as I wonder if they're making any money on them. Perhaps after a couple of years?

I'm just not sure making their more modest models all look very similar will make them a reason to buy a Maserati versus a BMW, Audi, Mercedes ... Unifying the underlying technology is a no brainer of course but the styling ???

I think when you buy a Maserati you want people to instantly know that it's Maserati and think WOW look at that car. That's hard to doo with constraints of design imposed on a SUV or crossover but that's not what this model is about.

 

These are interesting thoughts from you. I can simply say how I feel about the new Granturismo. All the models presented by Maserati over the last few years (Ghibli, Levante, Grecale, MC20) have been an extremely positive surprise for me. I consider all these models to be the most beautiful cars in their respective classes/segments. Accordingly, I was curious about the successor to the Granturismo. I also remember the pictures of the Alfieri. And now this. I do not understand Maserati. Until now, every new car has caused a wow effect in me. But this new Granturismo is a real disappointment for me. I honestly don't see one interesting new detail in this car. I see my current Maserati, just a little more boringly designed...

To be honest, the car looks like a GranTurismo combined with a California T. Maybe in 5 years we will get a Roma styled GS, the car Ferrari stole from Maserati

 

Maserati was/is a much weaker company than Ferrari and there was no way Maserati could have produced that anyway. Which is probably why Ferrari felt comfortable doing what that they did. The Roma is nowhere near as spectacular as the Alfieri is but it is still a beautiful car. Now that they're separated completely hopefully they'll chart a better course. That car was a gigantic tease for a lot of folks. I don't think it would have been as popular or ground breaking for Maserati as the MC20 has been. But it's still the one I wanted.

 

I have already test-driven the Roma, which will probably be my next car, I really like it, great design, great engine. After I bought two Granturismo each new (2014 and 2018) it is highly likely that there will be no more Maserati Granturismo for me...
