    Today, my "resale red" 1975 Dino 308 GT4 completed the process of reversion. It's now back to its original Verde Pino, and badged as a Dino (as it left the factory).

    I could not be happier with the results, it's absolutely stunning. Breathtaking. Jaw-dropping. I'm waiting to wake up from this dream and sadly discover it's not really mine. But somehow, it is.

    It looks great ... but if you have Dino badges shouldn't you have the 6 1/2" Dino wheels (not the 5 spoke Ferrari pattern)?

    Definitely more common, but not a requirement. The 5 spoke "Ferrari" wheels were always an option since the 308 GT4 went into production. This car came with them when it was purchased new—yes, a lot of US dealers swapped them out, but I believe this car shipped with them from the factory. I do, however, have a set of the Dino wheels, but I'm probably going to sell them as I don't ever see myself putting them on.

    Yes - agreed, but my point was that I don't think the 5 spoke wheels ever came with Dino badges.

    The Verde Pinot is absolutely stunning! I can’t imagine why someone would have ever changed it to red. What a beautiful car, and congrats and having the opportunity to show it as so many amazing places during Monterey Car Week. The fact that you will have a GT4 or a 308 of any kind at Pebble shows that these beautiful cars are starting to get the respect they have always deserved.

    I was going to, in fact, I have a ticket… but now I can't. Since my car is going to be in Ferrari's 75th Anniversary display at Pebble Beach, I have leave Concorso and head straight there for load in.

    Ah, I see what you're saying. Believe it or not, those Dino-badged center caps were standard with those wheels through chassis #12162 (mine is 10388, so well before the cut-off), it was just extremely rare that anyone actually ordered those wheels, so you almost never see them. When dealers swapped the wheels out, they put on Ferrari center caps.

    I have the same wheels/center caps that you do. I chose Pirelli CN36s, though. Period correct and, in my opinion, having had both, superior to the XWX.

    Not so sure the 5 spoke pentas were optioned later from around 77or 78 when Pirelli launched the P 7 that fitted 7.5 fronts and 8.5 rears .
    early GT 4 s well the badged “ Dinos “ 75/76 and mid 77 were Chromadoras .
    Yes you can fit Ferrari wheel inserts on Dino Chromadoras a lot did .
    As mentioned the Dino badge + pentas are not correct as it left the factory.

    The “ Ferrari “ distinguishes them from the 246 wheels which have “ Dino “ on them .Theses are the early correct GT 4 wheels .

    That's what I've heard too, so when it's time for new tires, I'll be getting the Pirelli's as well.

    Longstone Tyre has/had a link to a German magazine article that was a comparison test of four or five vintage tire recreations and the CN36 trounced them all and, as I recall, was also the lowest priced.

    Take a look at the 1976 parts manual for the Dino 308 GT4, and read the notes in TAV 37 for parts #10 and #12:

    #10 is the 5 point star wheel, part number 108752
    #12 is the Dino center caps, part number 109845

    The note for #10 (108752) translates as "Only on request" which tells us these were optional wheels from the factory. There are two #12, and that's explained in their notes. The first #12 (109845) is the Dino center cap and its note translates as "Only for wheels #I08713 and #I08752 - Valid up to chassis 12162" (chassis 12162 is an early 1976 car). The second #12 (109847) is more than likely the Ferrari cavallino rampante center cap and its note translates as: "Only for wheels #I08713 and #I08752 from chassis 12180". This would coincide with the timing of switching over to Ferrari badges on the cars.

    This clearly shows the 5-point star was an available option from the factory. And if your car is chassis 12162 or earlier, and you ordered the optional 5-point star wheels, then you would have received the Dino center caps as per the note in the parts manual. Of course, I'm sure that depended on supply at the factory, but the earlier the car, the more likely this was the case. Mine is an early 1975, chassis 10388, and was Dino badged from the factory. This was likely rare, but it was 100% available. In fact, in 1975 the 5-point star wheels were a $357 option.
