Hi all, new to this so apologies if this has already been discussed, but I couldn't find any such thread. A previous owner has tried to paint the front bumper of my 308 GT4 with black paint. It is now flakey and I was keen to get it off and leave the plain rubber as per original. Not sure of the best way. ? Paint stripper ? Fine sanding Has anyone had this problem and dealt with it before? Thanks, Peter Image Unavailable, Please Login
Just refinished my front bumper. Start with 120 grit, work your way down to 400 wet sand. I used a cordless drill with 2” sanding discs, $10 for a set from Amazon. Then 5 coats of black bumper spray paint from Autozone. 2 cans should do it. It’s easy to remove both bumpers for painting. Just 4 nuts and 15 min.. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Only down to rubber in small areas where there was previously filled cracks. I refilled the cracks in those spots, then sanded, then painted. Looking at your bumper, you probably need to remove all the loose paint. I might be inclined to use a large flat sander to gently and evenly remove the loose paint (rather than a small rotating sanding head as I previously suggested). The smaller rotating sanding head could easily gouge the rubber underneath and result in an uneven finish. As always, painting is the easy part.
Thanks Mark. That's not my bumper (or post) pictured above, but I'm in the same situation, only the bumper is red. I much appreciate the tips! - Matt
