I am getting ready to change the spark plugs in my 86 328 GTS and wanted to find out what are the best plugs to use...NGK? Bosch? I want to go with iridium and not sure which are best. Should the plug wires be changed along with the plugs or can they be done later?

I’ve had iridium plugs in mine since I owned my 328 with no issues.

As you have a 328, and most likely have plug extenders without internal resistance, the NGK BPR6IX is probably a good choice. The iridium plugs last longer and are more resistant to fouling and the 6 heat range seems like the most common choice in these cars for street driven vehicles.

For 328s use NGK DR8EIXs and forget about them

You guys are mixing apples and oranges:

    NGK BPR (14mm thread) = for 308

    NGK DR (12mm thread) = for 328

The good news is that the 328 Microplex ignition can fire the coldish stock "8", DR8EIX, 328 plugs well, and we've had zero discussion about needing to use something else on a 328 (I'm with Iain on this). Maybe going to DR7EIX for always street (not Autobahn) use is OK, but I wouldn't go to "6" -- JMO.

A 6 is too hot for any injected car. A 7 is OK but it calls for 8 and see no reason not to use them.
