I just had the entire front of my new F8 covered with PPF. The installer had to put these cut lines on the sides of the S duct on the hood to relieve the tension he said. Can’t really tell in the garage but under the sun it will certainly be noticeable. And I don’t like the fact that part of the paint is still exposed. So any owner who has PPF installed on their F8, did the installer had to put these cut lines in the film in order to install it properly? Thanks for any replies.

Probably has to do with the type of pattern he used? Do you know what the film brand is? I wouldn’t be concerned with it. Some film patterns are better than others.

That looks normal, mine has it as well. Did you used Xpel ultimate?

I would not be concerned with that area. If need a peace of mind can ask installer to cut out a custom piece and protect that uncovered area.

The relief gaps are totally necessary. Some installers will cut small pieces to fill the gaps.

Thanks you guys for all your replies so far. Well that's a relief that it seems it's standard procedure and unavoidable to have that cut line done on the sides of the S duct on F8s. BTW, my installer is pretty well known in the Southern California area and he uses SunTek Ultimate.

That is a tough spot. A small relief cut is needed. Yours could be much smaller.

Completely normal... My F8 ppf installer used the same technique and explained it was necessary..

Got my curiosity aroused. Looked at my F8 install and it does not have that cut. Mine has a single segment where you are showing your cut lines.

Yep, mine’s got two of them, a cut on each side. I would’ve never noticed if I hadn’t seen this thread.

Premier in Northern California is able to do it without the cut line.

Yeah... Well the first one had a interaction with a tree with 104 miles. Next one was its replacement. The next one was one I ordered and I just got a spider I ordered awhile back.

Prestige Clearguard Alpha. But seems like a good bit of installer skill is involved, too since they do all custom, not pre-cut. They can do F8 mirrors and bumpers in one piece. Many of us in the SF Bay Area know they are one of the best, their lead time for scheduling is 3-4 months!

Here are a couple of videos of F8s they’ve done. Mine is the non-satin one.

I’ve seen their work before and it is outstanding. I went with Suntek 10 mil - the product being applied in the video appears to be not as thick.

There aren’t a lot of high impact areas on an F8 that require 10mm. Front bumper and hood, rear quarter panels, windscreen support (I did my windscreen in ExoShield). The other areas you could get by with 4mm, or just ceramic.
