Hello, I'm trying to help someone who has a car (remote, I don't have access to it) with a 360 error: "P1634 CAN line error among ECUs (B2)"

B1 - Right Side Bank ECU, B2 - Left Side Bank ECU

Is (B2) in this message indicating that B2 is reporting a problem (with reaching a potentially bad B1) or is it indicating that B1 is reporting inability to reach a potentially problematic B2?

In other words, which ECU is sending the above message?

if you can see an error message, that means you have some sort of an OBD2 reader.
Before you can see the code, you need to use the OBD2 reader to "enter" an ecu module.

Whichever "module" you entered, that is the side of the ECU that is sending you the error message.

True, thanks, and I have formed my question incorrectly. I'm trying to determine: "Which ECU has a problem"? In the above case the left (B2) ECU is sending the error with identification of left (B2).

Another error could be "P1633 ECU config check (B2)" also sent by the B2 ECU.

    1) So applying a casual logic a conclusion could be: left ECU is reporting configuration problem or CAN problem so there is a problem related to the LEFT ECU.

    2) But applying a Ferrari logic I think the opposite is true. I'm guessing that if LEFT ECU is for example controlling the RIGHT throttle body, so equally well Ferrari may have designed the LEFT ECU to control the RIGHT ECU. And if the LEFT ECU complains about ECU problems like above, those problems are in the RIGHT ECU.

2a) So a message like "P1633 ECU config check (B2)" should be read as "P1633 ECU config check problem in B1 ECU"

Does it make any sense? Is 1) or 2) above correct? Thank!

The 360's Left ECU may be controlling the Right throttle body, but there is direct wiring between the ECU and the throttle body (i.e. the wiring goes across the engine). On other crossflow-engined Ferraris (e.g. 550), some data sampled by an ECU and sent to the other ECU (perhaps in an effort to reduce cross-engine wiring).

Here is a diagram of the 360 right bank wiring showing the wiring going to the throttle body (24S) on the left side.

My decoder says "CAN error between (ME7) ECUs (Bank 2)" instead of "among". Has wiring been disturbed behind the right hand seat recently? If so, I would check connector 18G/14G, a connector which carries information between the two ECUs on a CAN Bus.

It does sound like B2 is reporting the issue, but if there is a problem with this inter-ECU wiring, you would think both ECUs would report a problem. Weird.

Here is a wiring diagram showing 18G/14G for the Modena (see bottom middle of diagram):

    understood.
    I am no expert.
i am fairly sure that 1 is right. 2 is wrong.
it means the LH ecu got a problem.
