Let's get real here. We're not talking about any car. We're talking about a Ferrari. Love em and hate em, and I do. If I could only have one Ferrari for the rest of my life, which one?

I'm going to get personal. My favorite all time Ferrari is a Cal Spyder. I spent a week a little while ago seeing Jon Shirley's car every day. Pure lust. I gotta admire a guy who drives a work of art as if it were an everyday car.

But, but, I'm never going to be able to afford a Cal Spyder. Frankly, I doubt I'd fit. Some of us are not Italian build.

What is the universe of Ferraris for me? I've owed three: a 550 Maranello, a Challenge Stradale (Rossa Scuderia with a stripe), and and 330 GTC. I've also driven a few other Ferraris.

Which Ferrari is a forever car? This is a hard choice.

    Your thoughts?

What a taste! Amazing choice, it'll happen soon to you no matter what

Mine would be 275 GTB/C Series 2 with competition wheels, nose down ass up ride height, Cali plates, outside filler, black interior, maybe snaps , bumpers on

If I have to buy and pay maintenance, I'll happily live with my 328. Beautiful, just my size, and I can do a lot of work on it.

It's been in my life 20 years this coming October, and I expect it will stay as long as my knees allow me to get in it.

    Holy ****!
That 'someone' is definitely living the " Stephen Mitchell - ed niles - cluxton's 60s rock and roll California dreaming lifestyle! "

I need to get rid of my current 458 speciale! So unfair that both cars are nothing equal at any aspect!

Forever Ferrari for a guy getting close to 70?? Forever unfortunately isn't going to be a long period of time. It's NOT like we're in our twenties anymore. While the sixties cars are wonderful to look at, and fun to drive- the more modern cars are just great cars. Don't have to worry about fouling out a spark plug, by kicking the throttle once too many times in start up, they start, they run, need relatively little maintenance. BUT you had a Stradale, and for some reason you no longer own it. as well as having a 550 Maranello. Be curious what motivated you to sell those cars, I'm pretty much your age, have owned a couple of hundred cars, and am pretty satisfied with a 458 Spider. I have other Ferraris, but the 458 is my favorite. Can't really imagine wanting a more powerful car. Top comes off, which in Oregon is Okay, In Texas maybe NOT that many tops down days. Your other cars were all berlinettas. Not a fan of convertibles?

    Easy:
    - one of the best Pininfarina designs
    - practical
    - manual
    - V12
    - subtle
    - modern comfort but feels mechanical/classic

Easy choice for me, gated 575m. This is delivery day 4 years ago. I’m just as thrilled starting this car up today as on that first day

I sold the Stradale because I brought it brand new, drove it for a year, and then sold it for what I paid for it. Stupid me, I was afraid of the depreciation. Remember, Stradales weren't loved that much back then. I believe they fell in value to around $130k before going back up.

I sold the 330 GTC because I knew it had a lot of expensive needs, and I was right. I paid $90k for the car. Sold it for about $200k. Ultimately, the next owners put at least $400k into it.

I sold the Maranello when the REAR plenum hoses blew two years after I had paid through the ass to fix the car when the FRONT plenum hoses blew. When I asked the Ferrari service manager why they didn't replace the rear hoses when they replaced the front hoses, he just shrugged. That's when I decided I wasn't a good Ferrari owner. My expectations are too high.

I agree with you a 458 is a keeper car. (Although I don't like the seats.) The DCT is far superior to the F1.

I like tin tops because I have hearing aids. Dropping the top makes too much wind noise.

Mine would be my first Challenge Stradale. I bought it used but if I was ordering a Ferrari myself brand new....it was exactly how I would have spec'd it. She long gone and I, foolishly, let two others go as well. You don't really realize how special they are until you drive the "normal" variants. My manual 360 is very nice but it'll never be a CS.

    IMHO

A forever Ferrari would take in to account your ability to access and drive it later down the road

While a 458 variant may be nice now, in your 90’s it maybe more difficult getting out of.

Making my suggestion a California, California T, Portofino, or Portofino M

Great all-around car, just enough performance to do anything you would possibly want to do, comfortable, easy to access, drive pretty much anywhere…. And relatively low maintenance when compared to the others.

Interesting thread, I’ll be keeping an eye out to others responses, good topic!

I may end up with my two current cars - the 488 because it's the first (and quite possibly will be the only) Ferrari I bought new, which is associated with some special memories, and the 550 (which is the second I bought, some 15 years after replacing the first by a 575 at the time) that appears to be a timeless classic.
That being said, if I could have only one (and still within my financial capabilities), considering practicality and performance, that could be a 599 - I think it's one of the most impressive combination of comfort and power, and of modernity and tradition. Older cars are primitive by comparison, while newer cars have shifted to pure high-tech for the sake of efficiency.

I seriously doubt I'll be driving in my 90s, if I make it that long. After all, I ride motorcycles, play with guns and run with scissors so it is a miracle I'm still alive. It would need to be a car I like and you have yet to bring one up.

I'll stick with the 288. If I get too old to get in and out at least I can stand to look at it. I have a saying I never told you. Any car I'll own has already been built.

The 458 Spider is the quietest car with the top down I've been in. At 60 miles an hour you can have a conversation with your passenger at normal speaking volume.
It doesn't even blow around my hair, and although I'm your age, I STILL have a lot of it. Ferrari REALLY figured it out, with the rear window that's up JUST the right amount. NONE of the normal buffeting you get in so many convertibles and targas. My wifes Volvo, with the sunroof open is much louder than the Ferrari with the top down.

Now an annoying thing about the Spider is with the top up, the seals make noise as you drive on bumpy roads. There's a down side to everything. My 328GTB feels so solid in comparison, BUT it feels claustrophobic compared to the 458. While the 328 series are great cars, they're NOT very roomy. At 145 pounds, I'm not a huge guy, and the car still feels cramped. Might have something to do with my head almost brushing the ceiling.

Very user friendly..swap out the factory suspension for novitech..rides like silk..wonderful sounds when you want it..perfect amount of power/gearing. An HVAC system that actually works..very reliable once the usual issues are sorted out.
