Yes, I've searched around to begin with.

I've had most configurations throughout the years when it comes to fun cars. I've had RWD, AWD, FWD, USA, Euro, JDM, turbo, SC, NA, electric, I4, V6, V8, & V10, front engine, mid engine). I want to tackle the V12. 16cyl will never happen unless I win Powerball so I've drawn a line at the V12.

With that said, I want a 12 cylinder as my next car. I do not like the Aventador nor Aston Martin and the 812 is out of my budget. Plus I think the F12 looks better but that's subjective.

Currently, my stable is 2017 R8 V10 Plus, Tesla Plaid, and RS7 Performance. This would be me giving up the R8 for the F12 as a trade out. Can't keep both. I've had my R8 for over five years. I've put roughly 35,000 miles of fun times with the car. It was my daily. It's now my weekend car. I only put a handful of miles on it the past year. Life's too short and I've had it for a half a decade. It's under a Fidelity Platinum warranty, it's paid off, and I have another free year of Audi Care remaining. So financially it's smart to just keep it and quit the F12 dream.

Do I take the dabble into the F12? I've driven the 812 and I've ridden shotgun in a tuned/exhaust F12. The F12 seems more visceral, carries more prestige, and while the V10 in the Audi/Lambo sounds epic it's certainly no V12. I'm aware the F12 you have to respect. I've had a boosted Vette with a manual several years ago so I'm used to high power, RWD, and let's just say an ancient traction/stability system.

My fear is dipping into a car without a warranty of that caliber. My major hesitation is a five figure repair bill should it arise. I can swallow a 4 figure repair here and there but potential 5 figure repairs give me pause. I could afford it but I'd be pissed. From what I've read it's the transmission that rarely but "could" cause issue down the road. From what I've read on here the engine appears to be pretty much bulletproof.

So with that said, anyone here have any positive or negative feedback about F12 ownership?

My R8 that may go on the chopping block for an F12....

Did you drive an F12 ?
It is epic and R8 although a great drive is really not in the same league .. nothing like a 12c FCar

Drove 812 Superfast. I'll need to drive the F12 but I've ridden in friend's F12. He drives like someone insane. Took me on some back roads with it pulling high g loads in the corner and pushing well north of 100 on the straights. Seemed very playful the chassis. The R8 is playful but almost feels cocooned if that makes sense in comparison.

Yes I think you’ll be very pleased with the F12. A 5 figure transmission issue is unlikely, especially since they can now be rebuilt and repaired whereas years back had to be completely replaced. The transmission is the same across most modern Ferraris so not something F12 specific. Just do your diligence in buying.

well I'll add a layer of complexity to this conversation.

I just bought an 812 - Did I get the wrong car? I am using as daily driver and LOVE it.

30K miles on mine and no major issues of note mechanically - it gets driven hard but has not been tracked.

Get one from the dealer, properly inspected and preferably with the extended warranty attached.
The engine is indeed bulletproof as mentioned on various threads.
It's a super car, meaning things can happen, but in general these cars seem to have few major issues.
You'll have minor issues like a warning light here and there or an infotainment thing, but nothing major.
It has it's quirs, but the overall experience is night and day differnece from your R8.
As hard as Audi tried to make a Supercar; it's not.
The F12 is, you'll notice within 10 seconds.....

Why does it have to be from the dealer? I feel like there's some limitation in what's available. I just watched this doesn't give me much faith in Ferrari PPI. He said it was a Florida one and I'm in Tampa area. They quoted me the same $1200 if I wanted to get one. Almost feel like an indy shop would be cheaper and look it over better.

Usually the idea is that the PPI would be done by an independent. A dealer can't PPI their own car. For it to be CPO there are certain inspection requirements, but there are debates on how thorough some dealers are with the CPO inspection. If you're having an independent do the PPI make sure it's a shop familiar with Ferraris and ask them what their PPI will include on an F12. The underbody panels of the F12 cover quite a bit, and it can be time consuming to remove them. If the PPI is less than $1k there's a good chance they aren't taking the time to remove them. Without removing them you're limited to checking things like paint work, interior, electronics, codes, and basic suspension items.

There's a ton of great information on here covering all of this so check that out. Short of that, you really, really, really, need to actually drive an F12. Sitting shotgun helps but I would not substitute it for a test drive. I say this as someone who bought my F12 sight unseen without driving it. Very different than what I thought it would be. It's almost too tame around town. But drive it like your friend drove it and it will blast your socks off.

+1 on the warranty. I've had various battery, alternator and DCT issues all under warranty - it's paid for itself at least 4x over.

I have the Ryft titanium exhaust with stock cats. The car is several times louder at idle and cruise (stock it's Mercedes quiet under 3k), and really screams on WOT like an old F1 car. And still passses smog check with no problem.

I was pissed off at mine for a third battery issue in a year on Friday morning, and while at the dealership seething about it, I had my guy run numbers on models I would be interested in (like a Pista). Problem is that I got mine at the bottom of the 2020 market for a steal, and I would have to go up over $200k to see any real improvements in performance. I don't like the 812 coupe looks, I love the GTS and Comp but they're $$$$$$. Pista was basically tripling the outlay.

My point is more or less to get some kind of warranty. That’s the main point here.

There are good and bad dealers everywhere, but as long as you get some kind of warranty you should be good.
With any (young) Ferrari I would like to see a full service history.

But as mentioned above… drive one!

Absolutely think the F12 is by far the best deal on the market for a V12 Ferrari. Styling is IMHO better, than the successors, love the two large rear brake lights and the front end, not too much, but just right. Next model up is in the 400K range. That Ferrari V12 exhaust note at sufficient RPM is just plain nutz.

By the way, if you are interested there’s a Ferrari only show coming up Nov 5 on St Armand’s Circle Sarasota. If you’re in Tampa, not too far a ride and I believe there will be others from your area participating.

Thanks guys! Okay I have it now the R8 is gone. It was sad to see her go I really enjoyed that car but it was time for a change. The R8 is definitely easier to drive fast. F12 in my limited time in it I feel rewards you more if you drive fast. R8's DCT is smoother and maybe a tick faster. F12 is rougher and kicks you in the butt on the upshifts. It's more fun in the F12. That's really it in a nutshell for now. I got hit in rain driving it home (you can see the dark clouds in the cabin photo rolling in). Drive like a normal person the car drives fine in the rain. Doesn't hook if you drive aggressive whereas obviously the Quattro system will hold you. Dry weather she hooks up pretty good. Roads finally dried right before the sunset. I had them cap the valves before I took delivery so that'll hold me over for an exhaust.
