Please post your 1/4 mile times and if any modifications are done. I'm heading to the track tomorrow night and I'm curious what everyone else got. My settings will be: Soft Suspension Setting CST OFF - BURN OUT CT OFF PS LAUNCH MODS: 2017 488 Spider FI Full Exhaust Vorsteiner Wheels Michelin Pilot Sport 4S 355/25zr21 Mase Tune
I have a lot of these. Ferrari transmissions have a very long history of not liking that kind of use. If its built like a tank, it drives like one too. Image Unavailable, Please Login
A REALITY check. As a former mechanic, I've had my 458 for seven years and have NEVER used the launch function. Just seems like an invitation to get way too familiar with the bits and pieces Rifledriver is illustrating. Is the short term high from blasting off, worth the pain and suffering?
FWIW, I’ve never used PS in any of my cars, most likely never will. Launch times are meaningless to me. Lap times are a more accurate barometer of car and driver’s capabilities on a track. Anyone can be taught to push a button and hold the wheel straight (I think).
Oh, I forgot. I'm posting about racing on a Ferrari forum. You can break **** while racing? What was I thinking.
Racing is fine within the window of what it was designed for. Drag racing is far from that. By the way. Can you post your VIN for us? Its only fair future potential owners know the cars history.
I don't know other than to say I am a drag racer at heart and prefer that type of racing. The 458 Speciale is supposed to run mid 10's. I would think that you could get those kind of numbers without using the launch control if saving parts is an objective, ha ha.
Oh great so you could go outrun Brittany Force in a Top Fuel. There is nothing easy about any of that and they aren't interested in lap times. It is one hell of a barometer too.
This thread is funny. I use launch control on all my cars all the time. 100x in my Mclarens and many times in all my Porsches. Used often In my 458s too. It’s fine. I think if you run under 11 seconds your car is doing fine. 10.7 would be great.
there is a guy on youtube which ran a 911 turbo with 100 back to back launch starts and no problem are ferrari not supposed to be launched?
Yeah, it's the same forum nonsense that's been going on for years. Better post up your VINS people and apply for salvage titles! SMH. I'm now running 21 psi opposed to the stock 15 psi. It sure feels like it's running like a raped ape, so hoping for some good trap speeds.
Eric C, I think a few times you’ll be fine. Drag Times launched his Ferrari’s so many times most all documented on his YouTube channel and I’ve never heard of a problem. He did pop his Lambo Huracan transmission. I know the Porsche PDK is very very strong but on track road course or drag strip things have broke. Doesn’t mean the Ferrari F1 or Porsche PDK is better than the other. So anyway… go have fun dragging the car…enjoy it as a car I know you will. I’d launch mine if I could. I don’t have a left leg so I can’t do a good job with my prosthetic leg on the brake pedal. Ugh! I think if you get a good launch with your exhaust and tune and tires…you’ll see around 10.4 sec 1/4 mile. Deflate the rears to 18psi and heat them and launch. If you have your stock 20’s you’ll probably get better traction over the 22” skinny sidewalls.
@Eric C , please post up your results… I’m also curious to hear whether the 488’s PS launch control was better than a normal “DIY” run on a prepped track. For my Hellcat, factory launch control was fine on the street but not so much when using drag radials and decent surface prep. Hooking well required some finesse with the initial throttle.
I'll post up my timeslips and videos. I'm also going to log my runs with my draggy so I'll have that as a reference point too.
Yeah, he runs the hell out of his cars with no issues. Broken parts comes with violent launches, shocking the drive train. Wheel hop etc etc. PS was programmed for a pretty smooth launch with little shock to the drivetrain. But **** happens and that's what makes it fun. Sorry to hear about your leg! I'll post up my results! I'll definitely warm up my tires. Probably a rolling burnout, but we'll see. I remember having to use a linelock back in the day to do burnouts in my RX7. I broke every part that could be broken and 10+ engines. Good times!
Outstanding! You're gonna have some more fun! Be safe and I can't wait to see your results. I like your chances
You would be aware that all factory car settings are always on the safe side. A 25 % increase in boost will definitely be nudging it on the danger side. A slip up and there could be a boooooom.
Had a fun night! I ran consistent 10.50's at 135 mph. Even with PS engaged, these cars just don't leave hard. But, I had my fun and found out what the car will do and figured I'm putting down about 700 whp based off the 135 mph trap speed. This is pretty good for a heavy ass spider and my 260 lbs butt. That is quite outstanding, glad you had fun and it looked really fun. Have you tried sprint booster V3. It is always the first item I get for all my cars. I never got to tried it on my previous 488 unfortunately as I didn't know about it back then, I should reduce the delay off the line by a lot when PS is not used just mash and go. I have tried it on my SV, previous hybrid NSX and current NSX type S and F8. While doesn't add power what so ever, car is way more responsive and delay is greatly reduced even compare to when I press the gas as fast as I could.
Holy crap. I have never heard of that, but I just watched a video on it. I tried one run with the smash and mash method and there was an obvious delay from smashing the pedal to the car actually moving.
