WOW that last GT4 on BaT went for some serious $$$$!!! Let’s see how these next 2 do? Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
I don't think sellers understand the market, thus aren't making appropriate adjustments. When the blue one sold last week for $220,000, suddenly everyone with a 308 GT4 — no matter its condition — thinks their car is worth the same. I'm not saying this seller was expecting $220,000, but sellers with heavily modified cars also tend to think it's worth a lot because of all those modifications. The reality, and as the market is showing, factory correct is king. People are willing to pay a high premium for cars that are as close to factory as possible, but aren't willing to hit those numbers with lots of mods. And, if people want to modify their car to non-factory specs, they don't want to pay for someone else's modifications, they'd rather do their own. While that red 308 GT4 might have been a solid car, I wouldn't have dropped any money on it because I prefer factory original. You almost couldn't give me that car. Meanwhile, he lost out on a sale because reserve was set higher than the market is willing to pay.
I think the car should have gone for more, kudos for the seller. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
BS, people are still trying to go for the cheep deal. Sure a 100 point car will always bring a premium, same goes for any make. A tastefully modified example isn’t a throw away fixer upper and should still bring a fair price. Bidders were looking for a deal and it didn’t happen. Whaaa whaaa. Step up or shut up. I've already got mine, so I don't really care what they sell for (especially one I don't even want). But you know, that's kind of the whole point of an auction is to let the market decide what it's worth. The market said it wasn't worth more than $60k. Clearly the seller didn't think that, which would make him wrong in this case. But thanks for your unprovoked hostility.
Yeah, sorry about that. Just tired of a few always dissing the prices and seemingly putting the car down. One auction does not dictate the market. The right person for the car just wasn’t at the auction that’s all. IMHO. I was thinking 80k+ for that car? Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
I couldn't agree more, the right person for every car exists out there somewhere, they just didn't find each other this time around. I'm kind of more a believer of the car finds its owner, rather than the owner finding the car, so eventually that car (if it hasn't already) will find its new home. That seems to have been the case with both of my "collector" cars (Porsche and 308 GT4), they found me! To me, $80k seems high, but that's because I'm a person who likes my cars as close to factory original as possible. I don't mind some modifications, but for me the red one was "over the top" and just not something that appealed to me. However, in its defense, while it may not have been my thing, it was really well done. The quality of craftsmanship, work, parts, etc., that went into it was clear and obvious, no corners were cut while building that car. For that it deserves respect.
+1 Might have sold if he had put the interior back to stock. Trouble is GT4 interiors not so easy to find.
Come on guys, diamond tucked interior was a big deal in the 70’s. Heck there are some high end cars even today sporting inserts like that. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
So no GT4’s on BAT currently. BCC has none, which they usually do?! Only the white one on eBay, which looks to have a recent belt service hasn’t moved. Do you think it’s because of the color? What am I missing? Seems like a bargain price? Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
I think the one on eBay is be hindered by a lack of details and decent presentation. With BaT you usually get great photos and great detail, and none of that's happening with this one on eBay. Even when you go to their website, there's more photos, but again, a lack of detail. And by a "lack of detail" I mean "nothing." They literally say nothing about the car, the only thing in their ad copy is information about their location and that the buyer is responsible for verifying everything. So bad photos and no info on the car = red flag. I wouldn't waste my time contacting someone about a car for sale if they can't be bothered to provide me with just the basic info of what they're selling. And this is a dealer, which clearly shows they're only interested in your money. The whole ad and website has a very sketchy feel to it.
Agreed, they referred to it as a sedan as well? Clueless? And your right, no info other than the pictures of the receipts for services done. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
https://exoticworldmotorcars.com/vdp/18785185/Used-1978-Ferrari-308-GT4 Here is the eBay one on the dealers site. Looks pretty decent (except the shift knob) with a recent belt service. Guess they want you to call for info, absolutely no write up on the car at all?
A 1976 model has hit "The Market" https://themarket.bonhams.com/en/listings/ferrari/308-gt4/0095057f-b68b-460e-bb46-d567ce16e4b2?status=live
They seem to come in waves. I feel like there's a dry spell for a while and we don't really see any up for sale, then one finally pops up and as soon as it's sold, another pops up for sale. And that seems to continue for three or four cars, then we hit another dry spell. I'm sure there's others available for sale, this is the only one I know of that's available at an online auction site for now.
Another one has popped up at BHCC, seems rough (like a lot of their stuff), and definitely a whole lot of it is not correct. Seems high for the condition. https://www.beverlyhillscarclub.com/1975-ferrari-308gt4-c-14537.htm
