To me, the headlights look like an afterthought. Ferrari should have been at least more consistent designing that car.
I've always felt the G Waggon was a very handsome SUV, timeless. G65 If you want me to be specific. If current pop-culture, youngsters, and rappers are any indications, it seems I'm not the only one that holds that SUV in esteem. As far as your intolerance of SUVs, no problem with that. It's not novel for folks to reject certain cars for whatever reason. I remember when folks decried the concept of "sports sedans" as oxymoronic. That the M3 is compromised garbage. Don't even get me started on "sport wagons." Randy Pobst's car? What does that guy know? I know folks today that reject your vaunted Type-R. Why? Front-wheel drive. Some people trash cars due to their specific horsepower figure, forced injection (both), or driver aids. The reasons folks fanboi are legion, but I've figured out the core impetus (you can go back in this thread if you are curious.) So, do you, who am I to force you not to be a hater? You have every prerogative to dislike whatever you choose for whatever reason. Given that your primary reason seems to be due to purity, may I ask what objective parameters define 'pure' to you? Track times are the only element I can think of where subjective opinion doesn't come into play. Is that what you mean? If so, I concede that cars that are faster on track than the PS are more 'pure' - sure - why would I have a problem with that? I just find it very comedic (not saying you) that the folks who seem to be the loudest haters don't even own said 'purer cars.' so it's sort of like a person that owns a Blackberry saying the latest iPhone is lacking in functionality.
Of the 2000 they sold Los Angeles has to have absorbed a large percentage. Its incredible how many of these I see on the road here. And ***quickly dawns flame suit** I actually think they are kind of cool. Not pretending to be some crazy performance machine. Just a big cushy roomy in your face luxury car that can go on an unpaved road without scraping bottom. Not something I would buy personally, but philosophically makes more sense to me than the others ****runs away****
^^^ that said I'm not the "purist" type. Buy what you want. If you want a fast SUV I think the PS is great. Go for it. My "fast SUV" is a Wrangler with a 6.4L V8. Incredible fun but would be terrifying to take anything that looked like a semi-tight corner over 40 mph. haha. Serves a purpose in my life and makes me smile. If the PureBlood will do that for you then I think thats perfect.
I think for Rolls, it makes total sense. Roll means ultimate luxury, so an SUV fits into that niche. *** Look, I get the gnashing of teeth by purists; how dare Ferrari compromise sportiness for utility. If this SUV/Liftted Lusso/FUV/whatever you want to call it performs on a track like a pig, then I will say, yes, it's sad; Ferrari has lost its way. I just bet this car can run circles on many pre-00-era Ferrari. I've heard this same song for decades now. Isn't it time we stop acting like it's a new tune? Unless your car is 488 GT Modificata, let's say I get tired of folks trying to boast their purity cred. No problem if you hate how it looks, dislike how much it costs, hell, you disdain the name - but the 'purity' reason had left the station when Enzo signed off on two additional back seats over 60 years ago.
I never highlighted any modified cars, i just posted the full list of the Ring times. The cars i did highlight ARE direct competitors to the Pista.. The MR pack on my 911 GT3 was spec'd as an option at my dealer when i was building the spec on the car from new ( Porsche own Manthey Racing). MR packs on the cars are covered under the factory warranty. MR packs are not after market modifications , they are factory / dealer options. Radicals are road legal here in Scotland, and all over Europe ( i used to have a Radical SR3 SL, and drove it once to the Ring and Spa). So they count as road cars, no matter what some US law says. It's a real shame Ferrari don't build a 600kg, 700bhp drivers car with real aero, inspired by the 712p or the 333sp that can be enjoyed on road and track, but instead we get a 2400kg truck for soccer mums. I never said i hate Ferrari, you are the only one saying that... In fact i love Ferrari, I just hate their direction with this new truck..... I'm Tifosi, I have been to over 60 F1 races to watch and support Ferrari i have seen them win over 30 times ( mostly during the Schumi era, but i have seen Kimi, Alonso, Vettel. Leclerc and most recently Sainz win as well ). But i'm also not a blind Ferrari sheep, i'm critical when i feel it's necessary because i care. That goes for the race team and the road car department.
Yet not one of those excites me or for that matter evoke any emotion- not even dislike. Not an ugly or bad looking car. Just rather uninteresting. That is what disappoints me. Ferrari makes cars that evoke emotion- many I love, others I find hideous. This one is just boring. I guess the silver lining is that y’all can park that car anywhere and not worry about anybody keying it since it doesn’t stand out in the sea of drab crossovers. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
unfortunately probably true but this is one Ferrari that should be driven at least 5000 miles a year if you don't plan to do that there is no reason to buy it
You're right. The cars you listed are direct competitors; I never claimed otherwise. I recorded the same five cars you requoted. So we agree (I think?) Remember, it was not *I* that claimed Ferrari doesn't have competitive lap times on the ring' it was *your* statement; I merely responded to your assertion. I admit, 'never performing well' is subjective. Do you think the SF90 is faster than a Pista? I would say based on the lap times I've observed, it's probably just behind the GT Black and MR. I'm sure that won't be 'pure' enough for you. I guess that's my point yeah? To keep the comparison fair, I merely pointed out that the complete list of ring times you posted should not have modified cars (WRX) or non-road cars (Radical). Sure, I get some vehicles to have homologation in local markets, but I don't consider them universal road cars if I can't buy them., I mean apples to apples, please? Now in terms of hating Ferrari, thank you for the clarification; let me correct myself; I'll restate that you hate *this* Ferrari, and that's fine. I think I couldn't be more precise; I repeated that one should have the freedom to dislike what you will. What do I care if you hate Urus - do you, friend! I'm not here to force you not to be a hater because SUVs lack your desired "purity." I point out that you never responded to my point-blank question, what makes *this* SUV less pure than a slower car, say on your beloved ring? It's undoubtedly going perform faster on the track than an F355; does it make the 355 'less pure?' I'm trying to understand. I get it if you say this car is less pure than a 296 - sure, why would I disagree? I guess that's what I'm trying to wrap my head around; if not track times that make car A more 'pure' than car B, what is it? Simply how it looks? How it sounds? How it feels? That's fine; if this is how you define purity. I just point out that all three are subjective. I like to debate objective elements. Now folks will say, well you can only judge cars by the epoch! Really? Sure when comparing cars within each era - I agree, it's relative after all. But don't kid yourself and tell me a Model t based race car is a 'purer' race car than this SUV. That's just silly. As somebody that supports Scuderia Ferrari, would you not want more money to fund their exploits, not less? After all, one is not required to purchase this car to support the team; on the contrary. Call me strange as a fellow SF fan to wish they have more money in the bank.
So Ferrari does track only cars. Do you like those? I believe Ferrari sees their target audience and older, maybe heavier in some cases who want to be involved in at least one aspect of the Ferrari universe. They also take some level of call it responsibility. A 600 kg 700 HP car sounds delicious but it may also be a deathtrap (maybe not but the formula leads to the thought). I kinda see their legal team holding the line against that unless you are talking about buying a second hand F1 car (imagine the disclaimers in the contract). It's nice to have these new brands willing to do out of bounds stuff. I picked up my Lucid Air GT-Performance last evening. The Maroney sticker tells me I have 1111 HP (that in the hands of an old, slow reflexed guy with a lot of astigmatism).
After watching the Top Gear YT video on the Purosangue, I like it. I won't buy one as I'm done spending $200k plus for cars but I like it none the less. Will there be a new section in the "model" portion of this forum for it? It doesn't fit into any current category right now really.
To be honest and fair, @Chicko said this hatred stops at this SUV. I've stated time and again, nothing wrong with being open with your hate. I am fascinated by the 'whys,' though. I get it if somebody hates the looks, sound, and feel - fair. Who am I to judge another's subjective preferences as objectively wrong? Always happy to agree to disagree on such ephemeral elements. @Chicko remarked his measure of 'purity' as performance. Yet, we don't have any stats yet. I've often learned far more about the character and motivations of one who disagrees with me than otherwise.
When i said Ferrari's never perform that well on the Ring, i was meaning compared to their direct competitors as they are always slower in each sector they produce models, and i believe this will be the same case again with PS, its unlikely to be faster than the Cayenne Turbo GT, so its not going to be fastest most sporting and capable SUV on the market like some are claiming. Either way, Ferrari have said they will not be doing an official ring time with the PS. I have never seen a Ring time for the SF90. Ferrari have not done an official time for it either. A Pista around the Ring could well be faster, as weight is the enemy on that track, and the SF90 is a lot heavier. Ferrari claim SF90's dry weight as 1570kg ( 3462lbs), but in the real world, the kind of weights being shown are 1786kg (3938lbs). And you would be correct, i have little interest in a 1800kg "sports car". Has Ferrari said they are releasing more funding for its racing divisions on the back of building the PS? F1 is now under the cost cap regulations, and i read the funds for the their Le-Mans Hyper-Car project is coming from the " saved" F1 budget.
My 'verdict' ... the Purosangue is not bad! Maybe not something for the purista but it is what the market would like to see, so Ferrari made it. I probably like it when I see it in the flesh. Would I buy a good specced one? Not very likely as I can get an Aston DBX707 (although less sexy) PLUS a Maserati MC20. So I cover practicality and fun for that amount of money. The maintenance of the Purosangue (for sure needed frequently when used as a daily driver) probably also will cost the same as that of both mentioned other cars. Well it is a way to make the most out of the numbers one can produce, good for their results but that is where I drop off as I don't have the urge to possess one and keep their financial results high. Too bad!
My wife will drive the **** out of it I’m sure. She puts around 17k/yr on her Urus so our Purosangue will get used. Maybe she’ll set a record.
Having had to push my fair share of ferraris over the last 20 years..the days of pushing a car into the shop by myself are long gone. Last one was the 360 I could manage. 458 needs a crew, can't imagine the SF 5k pound "sports car"..never thought I'd see the day..
2 PS’s?!? Bravo Sir, I salute u! I’m planning to get rid of my daily - G63 for the PS. We shall have to see who has more miles after a year!
Lol. I have two ‘21 G63’s…each with 30K on the clock. Hope you’ve had better luck with yours than I have. Three windshields, three sets of brakes, locked fuel door, drivers side mirror, infotainment system, low oil, spare tire cover, pathetic wiper system for winter driving, many rattles…and the worst brake dust on the planet. But, my wife loves carting the kids everywhere and daily Starbucks runs in it.
