Well guys, i just flew to France to check out a 355 (wouldnt' buy one overseas without doing own leg work) this was a very well maintained car, with a great enthusiast owner..so no fault on the owner, stuff just happens.C'est la vie ..thank God we weren't hurt, at first when pulling off we could not get the doors open from inside, until i pulled on the lock itself, the center lock would not work and door just wouldn't open..its a 94 but still had an alarm system for locking/unlocking.

Thankfully i hadn't paid for the car yet, but either way the owner was an absolute gentleman and i doubt that would have mattered. It was always my dream to drive a F355 or C2S in the Cote D'Azur and i was so close, lol , but i never even got to drive it myself :( Seeing the Carbon Buckets melt to nothing was also very sad..yes she had carbon buckets, tubi headers, tubi exhaust..

*The car was always serviced on time , 2 days ago the owner washed in anticipation of me coming and called and told me it didn't sound right on deceleration, and it did make gurgling sound today when he was driving every time he would decelerate ..we were actually on our way to the mechanic to get that checked out, owner suspected it maybe something with fuel injectors or plugs..i did comment while we were driving that the car smelt like it was running rich..

Please inspect those fuel systems everyone! There's a small rubber elbow by the rollover that easily cracks. If you smell fuel don't drive!

Wow. Glad you and owner weren't hurt. Too bad, but it's just a car. Owner will be covered. Another reason I like spiders. Don't want to be trapped in a burning car.

That's a terrible video. One of the worst I saw for a long time.
The owner didn't have a fire extinguisher?
This is the first thing I bought when I got my 355.

So, do you know the reason of the fire?

Incredible that happened at that particular time. Glad you weren't driving or had paid yet. Hope the owner comes close to recouping the "almost sold" price from his insurance.

Holy ****, that is terrible. Clone of my car. I hate to see artwork destroyed.

Any chance you can put the clear turn signals in your luggage and bring them back for me?

I carry 2. A traditional and an element. Hopefully never needed, but there are too many examples of needing not to.

I have one of the element ones in my personal 355 but I doubt that would have helped at all w this fire..you’d need a big canister where u can stand a little back w a fire like this

Is there a thread that documents the common fuel leak points? All things being equal I would rather replace aging stuff and not have a fire vs trying to put out a fire with an extinguisher.

My theory on this one is every time he decelerated and we heard that sort of gurgling sound it was fuel that wasn’t combusting , maybe the injectors were shooting out fuel that wasn’t getting burnt and just accumulated ..who knows..it’s very sad because this was such a good car…owner really cared for it for over 10 years..

we think it just decided to commit suicide rather than being sold off to someone else!!

It’s very unfortunate all that... but as said elsewhere, we all know, the 355 are so capricious that I have no doubt that she could have refused to leave...yeah… strange the story of doors…all is strange when we know how Jean take care about his 355…yeah all must check this :
The fire could come from else where but we see sometimes some strange repair

First picture is my car before i totally restored the engine, it hadn't been recalled for the fuel lines and block and it smelled fuel strongly everytime i was driving, just matter of time before the fuel line bursted.
As you can notice some previous owner just used a simple rubber line without the stainless braid, when i removed the rubber it all cracked in small dry rubber pieces, the stainless braid is there of a reason because the fuel pressure is high.

So replace the whole fuel lines new block if you haven't done the fuel recall yet.
