I don't believe in the premise of the "buyers vs. observers" argument. In the court of public opinion I believe everyone's thoughts are equal whether they drive a Kia or a LaFerrari. One doesn't have to own a Michelangelo to have a well thought out opinion on The Pieta. IMO cars are no different. True. Interestingly enough they can all easily afford it whether it's 500k or 5 million. I think it might boil down in this case to perceived value.
I have to agree, if you drive a Ferrari you are bathing in public opinion on the road. That said, from what I’ve observed the well thought out opinions are few and far between. Mostly just emotional dumping. I’ve long noticed a trend on Fchat where strong opinions are presented as facts and absolutes. Generally negative ones, vociferously repeated. Often about newly introduced models, and in most cases it seems those with the most rabid “opinions” aren’t buyers anyway. Genuinely, don’t you find that interesting? It really makes me wonder what people get out of repeatedly slagging something they have no intention of (or no entree to) engaging with in reality. But I think there’s just too much behind it to simply take it at face value. Like when at every opportunity your friend talks down on whatever woman he was involved with until recently, but also says he doesn’t care about her…
Nice sheet, thank you. Honest question to everyone: if you had to bet your own leg on it, which of these would you reckon would give you the most driving pleasure? Please don’t say a Challenge Stradale etc. Assume you already have that and want something with 4 doors as well.
YES! bingo!!! We’ve all seen what you described everywhere in the net’. I am always surprised to see it in my own “house” so to speak. I forget, most here don’t drive these cars. Hence I need to temper my own responses. The fault actually lies with my perception. The conversations here are often 180 degrees from talking to real live owners, then it’s either a shrug or them telling me the spec they ordered. The bashing I’m used to from the fast n furious crowd, which is legion in every ‘other’ car forum. We’ll maybe no more…
Glad you’re not getting one. This is one of the strangest comments I’ve read here…I’m just going to leave all that alone. The NA V8 is dead. The production NA V12 is about to die. I build engines and attach wheels to them. - Enzo Ferrari Ferrari is about to go all electric, by government mandate, what soul are you trying to hang on to here?
Last year, 2,000 Cullinans rolled off the lots: Average buyers aged 43, 83% male. That's 2,000 crypto-bros, youtube personalities, and tik-tok gals with 350K burning a hole in their pockets yearly. Call them tasteless, non-purists, wannabes, poseurs, what have you - I just remind you there are an equal amount of people that lay that charge on any exotic car owner. Good thing that doesn't affect the FIA.
Isn't this what internet forums are for? I know Rob must love the controversy because it generates traffic and eyeballs. Lol, it's no fun when everyone agrees. Having been following car design since the 1980's I understand how emotional a car can be. Not just Ferraris, all cars. A car is one of the few man made objects that taps deep down into someone's core. Therefore it isn't surprising to me at all that people express their onions they way they do. Personally I like it. It shows they are alive and not just some emotionless, walking calculator. I even love it more when a design is very polarizing. It tells me they did something right that people either passionately love it or hate it. Passionate opinions are the spice of life. BTW I find it interesting that you seem to dwell on the "buyers" issue. Do you think someone who isn't a buyer isn't allowed to have an opinion or do you feel that their response is of lesser value simply because they don't own something? I think you do (which I think is fine) but won't admit it. I do find that interesting. One thing design school taught me was to have a very thick skin. I quickly learned that the most valuable input came from people who had strong opinions and weren't afraid to emotionally dump their thoughts. The most brutal critiques were inevitably the most helpful. Once you got over the sting you often found out constructive points.
Great point. Forums exist for everything you just said. I don't think anybody says one is not allowed to have an opinion, even grossly unpopular ones. If that were the case, posts would be reported to the mods for a user to be banned. I don't see that here. *** I do see precisely what @magneti has been noticing as late: the boards have just as many (if not more) attacks on Ferrari. Whatever the model. Again, nobody is violating the rules for doing that; more power to the haters. It's just something I didn't expect to see more and more of on a "Ferrari enthusiast forum." To be called out (gasp) for liking Ferrari? Again, nobody is arguing for censorship; that's a different conclusion; I do, however, want to understand why this is, and I've concluded exactly as @magneti come to. If that's of any consequence or not is up to the readers. For me? It is very illuminating at least for me personally.
...and more importantly, what/who/where is stopping them from buying a 'pure' Ferrari now? One can easily go and buy a Challenge car like my buddy Kevin Enderby. Knock yourself out. Don't like it, don't buy it. I might not want a Prius or Rav4, but I won't go to a Toyota forum and spend my time bashing it, even if I own an LFA or GT2000. So in good faith, I try to understand that perhaps there's something we missed. Nope. After peeling back multiple layers, Occam's razor applies. Not flattering, and it's my alienation of the notion that keeps hoping that perhaps I'm wrong. That and it's uncomfortable to then have to explore subjective elements once objective points of view have been thoroughly exhausted.
This is not a design forum, there is no output to be shaped. Very little constructive criticism here anyway. Mostly kvetching. The board is of course very happy with more engagement. In your case I guess you take all opinions the same, even simple, emotional, unconsidered, repeatedly negative ones, without good intentions behind them. You may like it because it feels good, but I’m not interested in the faux egalitarian thing because I live in reality. Let’s get real, there is a big difference between actual, potential buyers taking it under serious consideration, and observers, and knowing where someone is coming from has utility even if you prefer to ignore it. Depth of consideration with action in mind is the least of it, a matter you handily ignore. I guess you think your opinion about your wife’s purse matters as much as the opinions of your wife and her lady friends. Say what you want to your wife, but I wouldn’t delude myself into thinking so.
Really have to agree with this. This car, with the sunset of Enzo’s combustion engines fast approaching, has no bearing on what Ferrari has done and all the cars that exist for us to drive. It doesn’t affect any of them. I’m grateful for all of these cars. Purosangue too.
But outs Ferrari “pregnancies” are like 2 years! Much more painful than 9 mos. Women just don’t understand [emoji23] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Next step in Ferrari (r)evolution: after Purosangue - expect Ferrari Puroelettrico by 2025 (thankfully not a SUV )
Well you can always just ignore those of us who don’t have the proper credentials to voice our opinion. Unless of course we agree with you, then I’m sure we’re good. BTW funny you should mention my wife. She does in fact ask my opinion often on her purses, etc. She learned long ago though not to ask unless she wanted the truth. Of course she doesn’t always agree with me BUT she is not so coddled that she gets easily offended. Thankfully after 30 years my batting average on her listening is up. Go figure!
I wouldn’t agree that people are here to bash Ferrari. I think what you’ll find here most often are a passionate group of people who have spent the majority of their lives worshipping the brand. They have no problem criticizing or vocalizing when they think the brand has made a mistake and or not lived up to their potential. Same as people do with their sports team. They ***** and moan when they think it’s deserved but they still love their team with all their might. Right or wrong, good or bad it’s the passion for the marque that has us all here IMO.
