For some people, yes. The question, though, is infinitely reductive. I can quickly respond to you by saying, "I don't understand. Do you have to have a Ferrari to be happy on the road?" Why yes, I do. How about we agree you drive what makes you happy, and I drive what makes me happy? And we don't call each other out, especially how 'pure' our respective cars are? Deal?
It's just the MSRP, plus I know what you mean with the options, etc., especially markup. You are correct; real world, far higher than 350K. Just giving context to my quote, which, ironically, I purposely went low (lest somebody posts a window sticker as I) since I was trying to say there is no shortage of folks willing to drop that kind of coin for the PS. (folks were arguing it was too expensive) Cheers
I’m with you. I don’t see the joy in driving such a heavy car. I had a chance to do an extended test drive of an Elva. 800 hp and 2600 pounds. It was by far one of the most amazing experiences of my life. Completely flipped my mind as to what a fun sporty car should be. I don’t need/want a “fast suv”. I want a fast light nimble coupe.
Like looks, this is subjective but for daily drives I do. Other than zipping around town, bigger just feels better and more relaxing no doubt as one feels less cramped on longer trips due to the larger cabin space. For 25 years I commuted (solo) 100 miles a day and for 3 of those years 200 a day. (I had to get larger vitola daily cigars for those longer trips home on those). All rural county single lane (GT type) roads between destinations. Good handling was not a necessity, but HP for passing a must. Over those years I DD several S/SL classes sedans/coupe/AMGs, Vanquish S, Carrera S (68,000 mi in 2 years), F250 & F350 long bed trucks, and a Panamera Turbo. (I wasn’t allowed to drive my wife’s GL or her Cayenne/Levante GTSs). The 911 was my least favorite (too small, too tightly sprung, too loud), the Vanq (my absolute favorite DD) and Panamera (fav sedan) the most enjoyable. FWIW put a 100 gallon diesel tank in the bed of those F250/350 dual solid axle leaf spring trucks (especially the long 8’ beds) and it feels as if you’re just floating on air. Parking those sailboats is a whole different thing. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
great points, I don’t a problem with people’s preferences. It’s when folks start questioning the choice of other people that things can get into fanboi territory.
My dealer just asked me for a second deposit (I gave my initial deposit after the email invite) which was portrayed as being a request from Ferrari. Anyone else receive a request for a second deposit? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
1. Perhaps you like to travel with children. Perhaps more than one. 2. Perhaps you live 6 hours or more from where you would like to go. 3. Perhaps you buy groceries for a family of five and live 30 minutes from the grocery store. 4. Perhaps you have elderly parents that you need to take somewhere on occasion. 5. Perhaps you have to virtually live in it between errands and differing school pickup times. Now none of that applies to the Puro since it is decidedly smaller than a house. But those are all reasons we drove a suburban for years. Have you ever noticed the large amount of luggage and trunks people travelled with in the past? Nothing new there. Ever notice how gargantuan cars were in the ‘50’s-‘70’s? It is odd to me how people complain the Puro is too big and then that it is too small. I think it is a great size because you can put stuff in it for traveling and still enjoy a sporting ride. Sure, we can travel in the 812, but it is pretty flashy. The Puro is not so flashy but still retains the v12 and some of the Ferrari quaintness. I think those are positives. Anyhow, just having some fun with the funny discussion. Yes and there is a great question as to why anyone would spend the price of a really nice house for a car with gobs of power that they can never utilize on public roads and in which they can barely fit a days worth of groceries and dry cleaning! Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
It's a cultural/ethnic barrier. I too live in a suburb, but I only have to drive 5' to reach 3 super markets. In the huge expanses of Texas things are rather different, I fathom. In Europe we don't need huge SUVs in our daily lives. Perhaps they do in Eastern Europe though, Russia is almost twice the size of the US... I own a Landie for off roading duties, but that is more of a hobby, really; even though I do have to carry some large/heavy things sometimes. Anyway, this Ferrari crossover is not meant to haul things around. It's more like a saloon (sedan) substitute that can also get you to the summer/winter house, which might have some rough(ish) roads to traverse through.
can you double check your numbers/sources for 0-100km/h time for 707. i did find that claimed 3.1s is actually 0-60mil
Thank you for pointing that out. I checked again on Aston Martin’s web site and the correct number is 0-100 Km/h 3,3 seconds . After this correction the conclusion is that the DBX 707 number 0-100 Km/h is exactly the same as the Purosangue and the Urus. However, 0-200 Km/h the Purosangue is faster than the other two.
Frankly numbers means nothing between the different cars.Absolutely pointless. Purosangue driving with a pure NA V12 and sophisticated suspension system will be a lot more important factor I guess..
When you put the prices of these things into other terms, its always interesting. There are some hypercars that are the price of several nieces houses. As Albert Einstein famously uttered: its all relative. At the end of the day, once you get past the need for A-B transport you are talking about a luxury item. In the case of luxury and performance cars, its something that captures your imagination. So if you want to have the Ferrari experience, in a more usable package, well, here you go. And if you don’t like the higher ride, extra seats and weight, then, they do make other models. Is it too heavy? Its lighter than anything else that we might consider a competitor. Is it too slow? 0-62 time is right at the fastest part of the group and 0-124 is clearly the fastest. Is it good looking? Entirely subjective- but I think they did a masterful job of taking the need to seat 4 people, with 4 doors, and some luggage. Ive only seen it in pics, but it strikes me they managed to do something no one else has done yet with a SUV, not even Lamborghini nor Aston- it looks exotic. Its the surface tension mixed with graceful curves and the proportions. But it doesnt look over done, theres a restraint to the design that I think is the right approach here. However, I would like to see it in person. How is the handling? Its got a true next gen suspension system. I have a feeling this thing will handle in a way that makes everyone laugh because nothing this size and weight should handle this way. Might the suspension be expensive to repair or replace? I remember when the MagnaRide suspension appeared on the 599 GTB and everyone howled- wha happens if it needs replacement or repair?! Today we don’t even question it. Will it ruin Ferrari? No - I think they are making this for the few thousand Ferraristi who would really like the usability of an AWD with 4true seats Ferrari. Some think they will eventually increase production but I dont think they will ever let the % of this model ever go (much) over the stated 20% because they should not be known as a company that makes 4 door “SUV” looking machines, but at 1/5 of production, I think they are safe. I actually think the biggest risk to the Purosangue is if potholes too easily damage the tires and wheels. And I think this risk is low. Just some ramblings on a Saturday morning, carry on! Here I was thinking the same. If I find myself in your neck of the woods I would be more than happy to discuss anything Ferrari or car related over a bourbon or beer. I’m buying
This is precisely it. Since most Ferrari owning households also have some form of SUV/crossover/high riding car, why oh why should those same households have to go to Rover/Aston/Lambo/Bentley/Rolls? Ferrari can do it better, and do it the Ferrari way, which we all love here. Is it better if Ferrari doesn’t make Purosangue, and Ferrari owners instead have a Bentayga or Urus next to their Ferraris? I’m not sure how that’s better, for Ferrari or for the Ferraristi.
Completely agree, but you think this is the use case for PS? I don’t see it replacing anyone’s single Ferrari, you already have those Ferraris and add the PS for when you need something like Purosangue. It’s an addition, not a replacement for your stable, it wouldn’t make sense otherwise. Who is replacing their only F car scud or pista with a PS, I don’t see that happening.
Agree with you. I guess what I was saying is that from a utility perspective the PS doesn’t seem like it has much so then why buy it? speed? But then it’s not the fastest car out there. I agree that it would make a great addition to a stable. I’m just trying to figure out in my head if I would add it to my stable. At 400k + I don’t currently think I would. Maybe later…
Pricing is completely subjective, so I won’t delve into that except to say that when a Chevy Suburban exists a Range Rover for a 6 figure amount is no more rational than anything else from L/F/B/R/A. These are all serious luxuries and irrational wants, that only leaves us with personal thresholds. I think PS will appear like a decent value in view of the pricing of future Ferrari models… To your main point, it happens to me often that I need a 4 door, with a trunk, yet I would 100% prefer to drive an F car. So then sometimes you end up taking no F car at all! Hmmm. And coming to personal preferences of aesthetics, I think PS looks a lot more interesting than the FF or even Lusso, which I saw as an improvement. Panamera 1 to Panamera 2 was a huge improvement as well. It takes time to figure it out. I really see PS as an extension of Lusso, slap on 2 more doors and stretch and smush Lusso and you’re there. We’re not that far from where we’ve been for some time now, are we?
Good point, but same can be said about many Ferrari right? I can’t use 10/10ths of any of these. Part of it is purely vanity, some of it is just the 1-2% on an empty wide open road. That said, I am owner, shareholder, and SF fan, so this is the right direction for me. For “purists” that also mock the Roma and Portofino, and Lusso, it’s a measuring contest I’ve rather not engage in.
