Starting cook again now that summer over. Sauteed peppers, tomatoes, feta cheese, poached eggs. Old Sephardic dish my grandma and mom used to make

With summer winding down, it's fish fry time in many small towns of North Texas. Fund raising for local volunteer fire departments.

Runaway Bay, Texas. Fish was locally caught in Lake Bridgeport. Beans and fries were very good. Spicy Mexican potato salad - never heard of such a thing - was not even mildly spicy. Sweet hush puppies...T

LOL. It's a breed known for yielding up to 2# fruit. Two stories.

    1. This tomato was developed in the 1930s by M.C. Byles, a West Virginia radiator mechanic who went by the nickname “Radiator Charlie.” Like millions of others, Byles was negatively affected by the Great Depression. He came up with a plan to create a larger, better-tasting tomato he could later sell. In the 1940s he began selling his tomato plants and the profits allowed him pay off his house — hence, the name Mortgage Lifter.

    2. Post-depression era breeders developed a variety for the nursery plant market, and named after their presumably high saleability, which allowed small-scale plant nurseries and farmers to recover from debt.

These two currently in the yard are probably 4 to 5 inches diameter. Nice size, but in all honesty, I get larger Cherokee Purple and Mr. Stripeys. No monster sizes this year due to our very cool late spring. Cherokee and Stripey from past seasons below.

Nice, I've had and grown mortgage lifters before. Cool story and good tomatoes. My mystery volunteer plant was loaded with nice fist size maters when I left a week ago. Not sure how they will fare another week of what looks like more warm and dry weather till I get home.

In Buffalo so.....when in Rome .. Beef on Weck and Wings at Anchor bar.

Lamb chops. Marinate for a few hours - rosemary, lemon, S&P, garlic.
Sear all over for a few minutes over a hot fire. Then about 5 mins or so indirect.

Served with green beans. I blanched them in salt water & froze them last week before we headed out of town.
So, I wanted to cook them high heat to dry them out and crisp them up. Garlic, Himalayan pink salt.

Heavenly. My grandmother only ever made potato pancakes after midnight Mass on Christmas Eve / Christmas, so that brings back fond memories for me...T

I was going to skip dinner (too tired and recovering from a cold), when my wife surprised me with Pumpkin Gnocchi in brown butter sage sauce. Yummy!

I've been boring the last few nights. Arby's Gyro and curly fries. Popeye's chicken sandwich. A&W teen burger and fries. Tonight, I may go to my favorite hole in the wall diner for the prime rib special. If no prime rib, Philly cheesesteak.
