Is there any physical contact between that rubber fuel vapour line (with the red fitting) and the braided fuel line fitting.

Is that black vapour line perishing? It looks soft and sticky.

The vapour line is part of the anti-evap system.

The answer is yes to contact, and it appears identical on the other side as well. What are the implications of the wear observed in vapor line?

Well apart from the obvious... flammable fuel vapour in the engine bay.... I'm not really sure. If the fuel is condensing and dripping down onto the headers, I suppose that might be an issue.

I don't know if a small leak would be sufficient to cause fuel/air ratio issues. The evap valve does normally open, letting fuel-laden air into the plenum, but only at specific times (and since the ECU is controlling the evap valve, I imagine it knows how to make the necessary compensation for this).

Can you get a mirror in there to check for holes?

My only other thought is that because it seems like oil and not fuel, that an overfill on oil is causing this. I read oil can go through the lines in overfill conditions. Don't know if it applies to my situation.

I posted previously about observing an overfill from a reputable shop. After speaking with them over the phone they said it shouldn't cause a problem based on where the oil was on the dipstick, even though it was over max. That was about 150 miles of driving ago. I'm starting to wonder if they are giving bad advice.

I'm sure I can get a mirror in there in a few days.

Wear from the contact is not the issue. That plastic hose becomes petrochemical permeable with age. I looked its chemical compound up once and that characteristic was one of its most notable. I replace them regularly in 355, 360 and 430. When available they are not inexpensive.
