    Hi,

I bought my 348 TS (1993) a couple of months ago but its developed a leak already. Not a major one its only a small amount but not being an engineer or having a lift it took a few weeks to get underneath and see where its coming from (photos attached). It seems to be from a hose that connects via a bolt that connects into the bottom of the Fan encolsure (photo looking from back of the car on the RHS of a LHD model). The light colour bolt.

The bolt is tight so the leak must be coming down the hose somehow. Question is what does this hose do and is it a big deal to fix. Would it just need the whole hose/bolt replacement or am I looking at my first big bill coming my way !. I guess second question is if the hose fixing does need replacement how easy is it to find the part for it (EU).

    TIA

Is that the return to the oil reservoir?

That is not a bolt, and that is not a fan enclosure. You are looking at the oil cooler and the hose is attached by a compression fitting. Either the hose is leaking, or the fitting is leaking.

Replacement of that hose is quite expensive due to its price.

I can't tell if it's the hose or the fitting leaking from these pics. But work out which one is leaking and fix it.

If it is the hose, remove the hose and contact your nearest 'hose doctor' and have them make it for you.

I will be a lot cheaper than buying a genuine hose from Ferrari.

If the fitting is leaking, it could be as simple as an oring behind the fitting or the fitting is loose. Hose end will be tight, but the fitting may be loose behind it.

Like pap348 says, find out where it is leaking and get a new hose made- with a bit of luck you should be able to re use the metal fitting on the end if you take a lot of care removing old one. If you find it is the compression fitting that is leaking, it may be that you cannot tighten it any more. Sometimes these are as tight as they will go and will not pull up. It either has an o ring or what you can do is clean up the olive with an electrical solvent, then put a thin coat of a hydraulic sealant( like loctite brake and airline sealant) on the olive and fit it. Give it a couple hours to cure and see if it leaks.

so tighten the nut on that compression fitting and see what happens.

Dont try putting ptfe tape on the compression fitting as it makes a poor repair.

    Hi all,

Thanks for all the responses. I dont have garage facilities unfortunately so I will need to get a garage to look at it. I do at least have the part number from the dealer so I may just see if I cam source a new hose and then have the garage fit it. Only 3000km till the next service so other option is wait until then and have it sorted at the same time. Its only a minor leak at the moment so its just a little issue rather than a big problem. I'll keep an eye on the oil and see how it goes. It seems the previous owner filled the oil resevoir way past the Max level so not sure if that contributed by somehow increasing the pressure in the oil system.

    TIA

Looking at the parts diagram it appears to be pt no 141820 and is attached to the bottom of the oil cooler.
Put ferrari pt no 141820 in as a search in google. I found a couple used about 300 dollars or a new one at 695 dollars.
That why it might be worth using the old fittings with a new hose. Will save you a huge ammount.

You can find the ferrari diagram on eurospares web site, click on ferrari, select 348ts and then look at lubrication.. comes up as item 5

Hey Pap! You have already helped me a lot with other posts, so THANK YOU! Lifted the car today after reading your recommendation in another thread. I was looking for a small oil leak and found this cracked fitting on part 141820. Do you think this compression fitting can be replace without buying a new part? Any advice for a rookie?

You need to buy a new line, or have the old one rebuilt.

Hydraulic shop? Pensacola has a decent industrial scene, but I'm not sure where to start looking. Thanks.
