How many cars did you buy and how long was your relationship with your dealer before Ferrari rewarded you with a special car. Speciale, scud, and even an Enzo or Laf/SP2/SP3 things of that nature. Have they rewarded you at all after several purchases?

You should be asking what else should you do in addition to purchasing multiple cars in order to show your enthusiasm and commitment to the brand.

Its not all about how many cars.

They want owners who will appreciate the opportunity to represent the brand in their special car and not just try to get it and flip it for a profit

    You're right

What are somethings that could show this to the brand? Its difficult to vet buyers now with the crazy car market... So many trying to make a profit on a car.

The only person I personally know that now gets these cars actually raced for Ferrari.

After dreaming Ferrari my whole childhood finally at 27 I was in a position to get my first. Over the next 30 years here is what I’ve purchased used in this order from mostly Exotic dealers or private:
    348 spider
    355 spider
    Mondial convertible
    328GTS
    512TR
    California 30
    488 spider
    812 Superfast (Ferrari dealer)

Then ordered my first new Ferraris:
    Portofino M: received
    F8 Spider: waitlist

I was then offered a Purosang
TBD if that was a special offering.

The following is only what I have seen, my first hand perspective and does not pertain to each owner, simply what I see the special vehicle owners as a group, what they do, hence having the opportunity to purchase special edition and special series vehicles.

In regards to "vetting buyers", something to remember is that Ferrari has always been in this position, their business model has been to build one less Ferrari than is being demanded. Therefore always having new owners in the wings. Money itself is not the factor, there is plenty of money, Ferrari wants true enthusisest to own and drive their cars. Sure, throw in high profile owners into the mix, that's marketing, but by and large, its the engaged owner... in the lifestyle, positively promoting the brand, that gets the rewards.

My list in no particular order:

    1. Speak highly of the brand whenever and however possible
    a. Social Media
    b. In your circle of business partners & friends
    c. Between other Ferrari owners
    d. Ferrari Chat
    2. Participate in Ferrari events:
    a. Ferrari Challenge Events
    b. Vehicle launches
    c. F1 events ( in the Ferrari Suites )
    d. Pebble Beach
    e. Cavallino
    f. Corsa Pilota
    g. Cavalcade
    h.
    3. Be a Dealership advocate
    4. Purchase your Ferrari through the Ferrari Dealership network
    5. Sell your Ferrari through the Ferrari Dealership network
    6. Service your Ferrari through the Ferrari Dealership network
    7. Classiche. Broaden your portfolio with older Ferrari as well, then send them through the Classiche program
    8. Atelier & Taylor made, when creating your new 296 go through the higher tier design programs, travel to NY or the factory to design your Ferrari
    9. Purchasing special after sales accessories, Carbon Fiber wheel packages, limited edition oil filler caps, special luggage, special items ( Yes, they know )
    10. Race in Ferrari Challenge series / Ferrari FxxK / F1 owners programs
Bonus: Be an active Ferrari Club of America member

Your mileage may vary, but the above list are items that most if not all special series owners have in common in way or the other.

Matteo Torre came around to each of the Dealerships when he took over his current position and told us that he wanted to implement a process so that when an owner or first time buyer could walk into a Dealership and place an order for a "normal" series Ferrari. That as long as they were willing to follow the buying process, that Dealerships were to make it happen. Matteo did not like the buy this to get that to sell this to buy that to maybe have a spot to buy this car program. In doing so the owner pool changed, new owners came into the mix. Though those that had been in the family for years were still taken care of.

That meant that a lifetime Porsche owner could in theory walk into a Ferrari Dealership and put a deposit down for one of these cars and get one. It may not be one of the first, but they would get one!

    Roma
    Portofino M
    F8
    812SF
    812GTS
    296

    In Theory:
Sometimes when say a SP1/SP2 Monza were to come available, family members will be contacted, " Are you interested Yes/No " and they go down the list till X# of committed owners are compiled. Those that said yes to the SP1/SP2 , when the SP3 came around, they were offered the same deal " Yes/No " and so on. IF SP1/SP2 owners all said no, then they would open up to other family members, La Ferrari , Ferrari Challenge, FxxK program, etc till they created their list of committed buyers. There are no hard feelings that I am aware of, there are X to offer, if you'd like one grab it, if not the process continues, those that know the system and are ready have a great time in the family.

All my personal opinion and its worth what you paid for it. ;-)

I agree with many of the comments above. I have been fortunate now to get early cars (GTS is a June 2020 now with 7k on the clock) but still outside of the VS (at least 812c and 812a). Rumor, somewhat confirmed by asking, is that most if not all went to great clients that also raced. I was told I was on the bubble but racing is not something I have done w Ferrari. I have done the corsa pilota and have my scca license separately and plan to continue with their program. I did get the PS offer but that’s obviously different. Good news is I love the brand, drive my cars, love my dealer and love racing so time will tell :)

Perhaps you own and show an older Ferrari, it doesn’t have to an off the walls collector Ferrari. Or maybe you race in an older Ferrari, maybe even win a couple in it. If you own an older Ferrari that the brand would like to display at an event and you say yes. IMO, these would be great ways to show your love, you passion and a true love of the car.

Seems like a great idea as Ive been really looking into buying an older Ferrari. Something special.

The premise of this thread is appalling. Ferraris are great cars, but they're not that great. The best thing that could happen to Ferrari would be if more and more potential customers pushed back against all this crap.

most don't care - look at the amount of lusso's that were sold in order to buy a pista, it's straight economics and works out so nicely for ferrari

I feel like the 360 - 458 was a golden age for ferrari, or at least that's how it felt like for me personally :)

    Let me get this straight..

Ferrari has asked Dealerships to take away all the barriers for Portofino M, F8, 296, 812.... making it as easy as walking in, putting your deposit down, and await your design appointment. Selling said new unit for MSRP. Therefore making it much easier for anyone in the world to gain access to a new Ferrari.
Still limited in production, but open to others none the less.

When it comes to special cars, which are special, they want true Ferrari enthusiast to have first dibs at them. Ferrari looks to see who is most involved with the brand its lifestyle, and above criteria. Otherwise any speculator with the bank account could place their order, knowing their primary objective is to flip the car and recognize the profit of such re-sale. Therefore truly taking advantage of those who have been involved with brand for 10,20, 30+ years. Upset the long term owners to appease the quick flip quick profit buyer?

Yeah, that makes sense, at all.

Where would the incentive be to stay a loyal Ferrari owner... no reward, anyone can do it..

Limited supply means high demand , those that want to be in the family know what it means and want to be, hence why they are.

Those that don't care about the family, aren't and don't do it.

    ....to each their own..

If this is the current policy, it is an improvement. But what about all the people who had to buy a Lusso to get an 812? Are those days gone?

  18. I rewarded Ferrari with a purchase of a Pista after looking around for 2 years.

It was going to be longer, but Ferrari threw in a mug and a cap. I'm easy.

If you are appalled by Ferrari- stay away from Porsche. I think Ferrari for the most part does it right. Porsche- those dealers should be burned to the ground.

To be honest this is something completely normal with most if not all high end brands. Try walking into Patek and buying a Nautilus or Rolex and getting a Daytona. Hermes with the saddle bag. Etc etc. Its part of the game and in some way does make it special...

We dont strongly disagree often, but on this we do.

To me, a company whose customers are willing to jump through hoops to spend money with them is the ultimate achievement in Capitalism. That was one of the best parts of running my company.

Our experience with our local Ferrari dealership (Boardwalk) has been infinitely better than our experience with the local Porsche dealership (Park Place). When we went in to buy our 488, I was wearing shorts and a hoodie, and I was blown away with how well were treated. The staff was very courteous and always treated us with respect. We were even asked if we wanted to consider a new 296, so our experience certainly echos SAFE4NOW's comments that Ferrari are allowing first time buyers into the standard models without playing any games (at least at Boardwalk).

I chose to wear the exact same clothes when going in to ask about a new GT3/GT3RS purchase because I specifically wanted to see how it went. While I fully expected not to get a slot, I was expecting them to at least try and sell one of the two 991.2 GT3's they had in stock. They wouldn't even get a salesman to speak to me. The parts/service people were always helpful in the past (put over 100k miles on our last 911), but I'll never set foot on that showroom again. Don't even get me started on what my friends have gone through with the new Corvette through multiple dealerships.

As for what Ferrari appear to be doing (allowing new buyers to get into standard models while reserving VS slots for proven enthusiasts), I see nothing wrong with it. Every business takes special care of the their top customers.
