Indeed. Then again, don't you have a distinction between a Light Commercial Vehicle and a Passenger Vehicle? Is a LR Defender officially classified as a truck over there?
Yes. But not a heavy truck as those are different standards. Why the EPA’s Vehicle-Size Classes Make No Sense (motortrend.com) Interior volume, of course, doesn't work as well for trucks, because they have beds, right? Right, except the EPA also classifies SUVs, vans, and minivans as trucks for some reason—and all three are, by definition, entirely enclosed vehicles. So why are these vehicles lumped in with pickup trucks and classified by weight? There's the cynical answer (auto industry lobbying to make it easier to meet fuel-economy targets) but that's only part of the explanation. Another part of it is that SUVs and vans, at least, are, or at least were, typically based on pickup trucks. In today's world of car-based crossovers, however, that's a historical artifact, not a good justification—and it never really applied to minivans at all.
I previously said I liked the design but actually seeing it on the road it looks horrific imo , especially the rear section
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration ( there's an oxymoron) decides what classification the vehicles fall under. Some of it makes no sense at all, but it is the law in the USA. Mfg. try and game the system trying to get vehicles classified one way or another. But in the end, NHTSA decides whether it is a truck or a car, etc. No one ever said it had to make any sense.
Agree that these pics don’t look great. But I’m going to attribute that to the photographer/videographer. Most times, people can make a beautiful object look terrible if they lack some knowledge. I’d still reserve judgement until seen in the flesh.
The actual EPA category is Truck, SUV, Van. People just seem to love calling the PS a truck. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
I read that wheels are 23” which looks fine proportionally but gives you a sense of the scale of the car considering how big the wheels actually are. The onward march of scale and weight continues unfortunately. I actually happen to like the design although the car is not for me. It’s a very pretty and practical version of the FF/Lusso. I can fully see the market attraction. They will sell plenty
well, I have seen the car very briefly from a distance last week in the factory, wasn’t really convinced but decided to pay my deposit tomorrow, and hope to receive it somewhere in ‘24. It will be my perfect daily, and the Ferrari I will used the most,
They think doing so makes them “edgy”, or somehow marks them as smarter than everyone else. The most tired kind of trope seen on Fchat. Doesn’t change the fact that many talking that kind of talk never had a chance to get hands on one in the first place, I’m convinced it’s a case of sour grapes. And if you can make the thing you can’t touch “bad” or “junk” or “ugly” or “crap”, then you don’t feel so bad. The strangely heightened emotions are the tell. Phenomenon commonly seen in life, no different here on Fchat, but with a large dose of entitlement. I can begin to understand why Enzo wasn’t exactly enamoured with his clientele.
So you decided to buy something very expensive you are not really convinced about ? Brand power of Ferrari is insane I would say !
How do you know it's "very expensive" for PATRIEK? Expensive is all relative. I know people who drop 1M USD on cars without blinking, because for them it's little more than a rounding error.
The top views of the Purosangue and the F12 Berlinetta show the bonnets and the aerobridges. This element introduced on the F12 Berlinetta , plays a very different role on the Purosangue. While the F12 aerobridge deflected the air flow from the bonnet downwards to boost downforce, the one on the Purosangue is designed to reduce drag. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Well that's what marketing loves to sell but in the end it's merely aesthetic, no real effect on aerodynamics or very very low, negligible. The F12 aerobridge is just a joke for an aerodynamicist, and as for the drag reduction in the PS... well the best drag reduction is a smooth and straightforward airflow, not one that has to follow an intrincate path around holes and flaps.
The EPA classified my E39 M5 as an “economy car” back in the day… I don’t like trucks, and I like this, thus, its not a truck (for me) [emoji4] Sent from my iPad using FerrariChat
As I'm not an aerodynamicist, I can't assess whether the F12 Berlinetta's aerobridge is a joke or not. But maybe in this forum there are those who have solid knowledge of aerodynamics and can give an opinion on the aerodynamic effectiveness of the aerobridge. However, there is something that I know and that I have already experienced several times in the F12 Berlinetta at high speed. At a speed of 320 - 330 km/h the front of the car feels completely compressed against the asphalt and the difference is quite noticeable when compared to what happens at a speed of around 280 - 290 km/h. IMO this noticeable difference in downforce has to come from aerodynamics.
LDM mentioned at the F12 introduction they needed to do something with the side of the car. Now everyone says the F12 is the paragon of beauty. Do you remember how people laughed at the rear end- looks like women’s undergarments or beach wear…. Do you remember how people howled when they stopped building stick shifts…… Does anyone think the little fins and flicks on the side of the F12tdf or 458 Speciale really do anything? They do look COOL! And even if they did anything, who among us is consistently hitting the kind of speed needed for the aero to make a meaningful impact. For most of us, what really matters is mechanical grip. Time moves on friends. We don’t know yet, but imagine how our opinions will change when we get the first batch of reviews- this drives incredibly well….. And it has a V12 NA that revs and revs…. IMO a "truck" has to have the ability to carry/haul things in a dedicated bed. The Purosangue is NOT a truck. An Suv or crossover, yes.
