Long story short, we’ve been looking for a “new” car for Chloe last week or so. Decided on a particular car, spec, etc. Mob in Melbourne advertising exactly what we wanted at decent price, so enquired and they sent a vid of the car. Looked bloody good, except I thought the infotainment screen looked not quite right. It was advertised as a MY18 when the screen looked from MY17 or earlier. There are significant differences between MY17 and MY18 on these cars. Subsequent enquires revealed that it was in fact an MY17 and not an MY18 as advertised. I told the sales guy straight away. He apologised and offered to discount the car if I’d buy it. I declined. They subsequently discounted the car online several times over the next 48 hours but continued to advertise it as an MY18. Today I noticed that the car had the price reduced again (three days after I told them it was an MY17) but was still advertised as a MY18. Obviously they hoped some sucker would buy it as the “cheapest” MY18. I sent the guy a message this morning saying that he should change the ad or I’d report them to Carsales, and guess what they did? Changed it, and upped the price by 4K. Lol. My issue is that many buyers would never have known that it wasn’t what was advertised and thought they got a bargain. It was only the fact that I know these cars quite well so looked into what I thought wasn’t quite right. How often does this happen??
Hardly surprising, no different to Real Estate agent descriptions. Buyer beware, and be educated. I talk to about 6 people in the car industry I like, in all of Australia, after 31 years in the industry. Mind you, the number of private sellers advertising WOVR cars, and not disclosing, is astounding. Sent from my iPad using FerrariChat
Better of buying from a "backyard dealer " who buys there STOCK from the Chook auction place ! What about using a Broker ?
