    Hi All.

I've owned a '92 512TR (28k miles) for about 6 years, but I always wanted an FF or Lusso, I thought about keeping the 512TR but with 512TR numbers on the upswing and my desire to get a car I can drive more frequently with modern conveniences, I figured I would post the question from folks that may have had both or had similar thoughts. Would you trade a 512TR (red/black 28k miles) for a GTC4 Lusso (<10k miles and loaded with nearly every option). This is a rare situation where I might be able to keep both, but ideally I should be cutting down on cars in the garage. I would love to hear any thoughts from owners of either or both.

    Thanks, Mike

How to make a comparison that is almost not possible. I think we have to get away from comparing the cars against each other- but rather what is your use case. If your use case is more of a daily car, then the GTC4 wins. If your use case is the sense of occasion, theater, and general kind of super exoticness of the TR or weekend thrills, then its hard to go against what you have. I think if you really love the specialness of the TR and you trade for a Lusso, you might love the Lusso for a while, until some of the newness wears off, and then you have a car that is not as exotic. I love my Lusso but I wouldnt replace a more exotic sports car with it. If you decide to go with the Lusso, I would just say watch out for potholes, it is really the only issue that a search might not turn up so quickly. the front tires are like rubber bands. And I would also suggest a set of winter performance tires to enjoy the car when things get cold and snowy.

Thanks for the input, I see your point. I'll be using it as a daily and ideally replacing my Aston Vanquish also (killing two birds with one stone)... The appeal of going out to dinner in an exotic comfortably with another couple, or having the seats down in back so we can take our border collie on roadtrips, is where this all stemmed from... But the TR is an icon, which I've greatly enjoyed (drove it to work yesterday)... I have other non-Ferrari exotics, so I suppose those could scratch the itch if I miss the TR. I also worry that if the TR goes up in value too much after the deal is done, I wont ever want to jump back into ownership of one again (exceeding prices I think it should be at).

No one has a crystal ball, and if anyone did, mine would probably be the worst of the lot!

With that out of the way, if you have a clean TR, I would advise adding the Lusso. They are just so different. The Lusso is wonderful. You can put adults in the back, but you wont want to do it too often as its just that much more annoying to get into the back of a 2 seater. A few times a year for a thrill, sure. All the time, no. Just my own experience.

LOL, yeah my crystal ball broke too. I would hate to regret it, but frankly I cant think of a car I've ever sold that I didn't regret... I may see if I can make it work (keeping the TR), but my goal is to cut my car collection in half in the next two years and go more modern, more usable and purposeful (The TR still fits in this category, purpose built for smiles). Ughhh, I could always wait, but TR pricing is more of a YO-YO than linear and the timing may be right for the transition.

    Thanks! M

I have similar sentiments. Of all the exotic cars I’ve owned, my favorite is the one that I use the most, pretty much every day: my Lusso

add an FF and keep both, the FF is plenty refined to check the box you are looking for. the FF is a blissful DD. I have a 512tr and an FF. There is no better dd as long as the roads are ok around your area.

Interesting and not a bad idea... Originally I wanted an FF, I'll have to do more research but the reviews on the Lusso (I've both read and watched) seem to point to the Lusso as being a substantially better car than the FF. I figured it was comparable to the differences between the 1986-91 Testarossa vs. 1992-95 512TR? If the differences are minor that might be the right path.

the lusso is way more refined and has a nicer infotainment. for me the lusso is too refined.

if you want more raw than less, the FF is the way to go. and while i think both are very ugly, the FFis less ugly to my eye as i prefer the rear

Good feedback, I do want more refined, better stereo etc, as I want it to be a sports car / daily driver / and roadtrip vehicle. I personally prefer the Lusso rear (especially the quad tail lights). Not sure why, but I never cared for single round tail lights on any F-car model... I guess my first Ferrari experience was during the era of quad tail lights.

Now I'm thinking I should go ahead with the trade and then go to a first gen Testarossa or Boxer (eventually) for the more raw weekender, that is, if I get that itch again. hmmm...

Thanks for your feedback, I think these forums are far more therapeutic and helpful than my wife LOL.

Well, actually this is the very reason for posting... I am torn, but mostly looking to understand, is the Lusso (or FF) so good that I will not miss the 512TR? I'm starting to fear that I would likely regret selling the 512TR... but I suppose I could always get one later, if the market is normalized.

Are you able to go drive one for a long weekend or at least a long test drive? I'm partial to my F12 frankly.

I went through this exact dilemma for the reason you describe. Had a absolute perfect 92 512TR. Acquired my childhood dream.
Had her for almost five years but only added a couple thousand miles. It was for sure in my book an A to A car. The appeal of something more usable (power steering) that I could not feel too guilty adding miles on road-trips etc was what made me sell the TR. Bought a 599 HGTE and immediately started using it a lot more but couldn’t get used to the F1 trannie. Sold after six month and now have a 812sf I’ve added almost 5000 miles in two years. Pure joy.
Im glad I did it. Do I miss the TR? Of course.
I didn’t have the garage space to keep her.
Another factor was the major services needed.
Now I just drive and it’s glorious although less beautiful. Maybe I’ll get another some day:)
A 512TR is so special. But again a modern V12 Ferrari is very special too that you can use.

I'll see what they say, but its a consignment car and will likely only be an hour or so drive. Fortunately they are near a freeway, so there is a little bit of everything (road styles) near the dealer. I love F12's but I like the idea of a rear set of seats for adults :)

This is Miles (a short hair border and only a year and a half now) crazy energy and on task 24/7, but he's a huge softy and totally chill once he gets in a car. He loves car rides!

Wow, thanks for this... This is exactly how I'm feeling, the TR is so special and a poster car from my childhood. I have plenty of storage space, but I've acquired way too many cars and I want to start cutting back (modernizing and reducing). I have such a hard time getting rid of cars and I already regret it without even doing the deal. its a flaw I need to work on, this helps a lot!
