Since Hungary last year we know Fia allows Mercedes to clean the field when needed.

I'm genuinely appaled at this. Furious. This was one of the greatest recovery drives I've ever seen, everyone loved it, this is truly what F1 is about! And F1 rewards it with a penalty because of a MIRROR. Massive own goal for the ****ing idiots that run the sport. If anything they should've done something about it DURING the race.

This sets a horrible precedent in the future as well.

And lets not judge over the fact that the blind idiot that caused all this got given a slap on the wrist.

FIA couldn't organize a piss up in a brewery.

 

They should've let Andretti, Brad Pitt, Shaq...anyone that was actually interested in the race wave the flag. But then again, this is F1. They just want AN celebrity there, they don't care if he's interested or not.

 

So Elton was the one that touched carlitos and spun him around...but the british press doesn't even talk about it! Penalty zero, and Russel finished the job....an old and know tactic from mercedes -amg...keep at it boys!

 

Nothing against Red Bull or Alpine, but Haas was entitled to complain about the stewards inconsistency in dealing with car damages.

At every occasion the FIA is flip flopping about its responsability to apply the rules fairly.

 

They are, but they have a deadline to do it....they did it after!

 

Yes, very convenient for the FIA to hide behind rules (deadline) when they themselves fail to observe them during the race !!!

 

Brundle basically blamed Sainz, FFS! I suppose it was Sainz’a fault for being in the way or ahead of the Merc wrecking crew, according to him.

So glad Max denied that **** the win. He would have been insufferable to listen to… more than usual.

 

This looks like every road around where I am except we have a couple of excuses: freezing/thawing cycles including -20 C and colder, and incompetent road crews.

The ground is heaving. This is more than a resurfacing needed—and why the bumps keep coming back every year—the ground needs to be stabilized first.

 

Great race! Terrible stewards! This is becoming a regular F1 race pattern.

Max ruled yet again. That car and driver combo is just mega this year. Completely unbeatable.

Well done Lewis on a solid 2nd place. Outperformed the Merc today. Car just isn’t a winner.

Good recovery from Charles to bag a solid 3rd place and given another lap or two, he could have taken 2nd from a slowing Lewis. Bad luck Sainz. Messed up the start, too cautious on the brakes into T1, and then skittled off by Rus for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Shame.

Alonso - hard to put into words what an amazing race he ran after Stroll’s attempted manslaughter of him. Stewards penalising him has to be one of the greatest disgraces since Michael Masi left the building. Alonso defies age and still has to be one of the best racers on the grid. Put him in a top car and he would be wdc again.

Finally, great to see Vet have a good race, lead the race at one point and bag some points after a terrible pit stop. Great overtake on the last lap and a grand stand finish he’ll always remember.

 

Yes or else the mercs will porpoise again.

 

The leadership of F1 is starting to make a real mockery of things. It can't be ignored, can't be explained away. There's nothing more awkward and maddening to seeing leadership completely out of their depth. New schedule:

Saturday: Qually
Sunday: Race

The Alonso penalty is disgusting, especially when you consider that Russell got 5 sec for eliminating Sainz and Perez got nothing for his endplate slicing across the straight at speed. What's even the point anymore? If they're not going to even pretend to be fair, why should we pretend to care?

 

Let's be fair here: almost nobody expected Alonso to continue after the horrific shunt his car suffered. He was lucky to escape injury and managed to reach the pits on punctured tyres. His crew simply changed the tyres and the front wing, without much checking other aspects of the car. I was surprised the stewards didn't order a thorough inspection before letting him resume; the suspension parts are prone to damage in such incidents. You wouldn't get away with that in an endurance race, for example. In fact the bodywork of the Alpine was damaged, the right mirror dangerously loose later fell off with the vibrations. That was a hazard for anyone following Alonso, and another own-goal for the FIA.
So, if you are incensed by Alonso's penalty, I am aghast that no FIA official is in the pit lane to ensure that cars involved in heavy contacts are still fit to race. Even more surprised since the new race directors come from the WEC where it's common practice.

The endplate episode on Perez Red Bull is another example of the "discretion" given to the stewards to apply the rules. A loose endplate on a Haas is dangerous, but on a Red Bull it isn't! Who believes this cock-and-bull story?

Whoever the protagonists are in these incidents, it's the FIA which should be in the dock for the poor governance it provides, IMO.

 

Well, yes and no, The penalty is disgusting, sutpid, won't even call it's real name cause i would be bammed, on the other end, it was served to alonso, so it's more than deserved!

 

Agree 100% with William. I think we as fans are just looking for consistency on the part of the FIA. There can't be one set of rules for Red Bull or Mercedes and another for the backmarkers. If Alonso merits a 30 second penalty than so does Checo, no question.

 

Once in a 1000 posts you get it right! I absolutely agree, after a shunt like that, Alonso's car should not have been alowed to continue, a quick check in the pit's is unable to dtect micro-cracks or other small issues taht could cause a major failure in a dangerous place and lead to a massive shunt, even a driver as experienced as Alonso might not be able to "feel" if something is wrong and could break withou warning.
