I have sold almost everything so I think that answers your question. I would buy the cars back at the old prices. There are many examples of Ferraris dropping 90% over the decades. I’m sure others can chime in with examples. Not saying that is going to happen, but at these prices I’m just watching and enjoying the popcorn and waiting to see what happens next. By the way for everyone that owns these amazing cars I hope they keep going up for ever.

F40 will be worth $10m, not sure about the 288. Whati's crazier than the f40/f50 are the pagani prices.

Totally get that. I’m not expecting to ever own an F40 or 288 ever again so it’s not a risk for me. I sold them because I owned them for ages and was bored with them quite honestly and neither are particularly good driving cars. I became more interested in race cars and did Ferrari challenge etc, just went in a different direction. I still enjoy the modern cars and have some fun stuff coming. But to each their own. I most sincerely hope the F40 goes to $10m, I really do.

Absolutely if the emotion is gone, they are not worth the economic risk

The most recent result was 2.2m GBP high bid, somewhat below par for recent values https://www.classic.com/m/ferrari/f40/

That said in the next month we have 4 more F40s coming to the market at mileages ranging from 2,736 to 30,143 so we'll know how the market is actually performing based on recorded data, as opposed to how it feels.

I've mentioned this in other posts, but everytime a new high watermark is achieved (or perceived), there's often a rush of new supply as owner's see opportunities to cash in. A lot of owners that say they'd "never sell" when the market is $1.5 might change their tune at $2 and even more again if the market hits (or is perceived to hit) $3mm. I think we're seeing this play out now. Those 4 cars shown above are a drop in the bucket compared to what's available.

As an aside, and from the sidelines, it's kind of funny to see the tear RM has gone on since the "palace revolt" by the Broad Arrow folks. I know they've been established as the leaders for some time, but I can't help but get the feeling there's just a little more lately... More big lots, more sales, new sealed bid formats, etc. Fun to watch.

A local guy here listed his car a couple weeks ago asking 4m, and it sold close to that number last week.

Highest I know of is the $3.98M at Gooding in August.

Driving the tdf is like driving a 1970 fiat 500 just with more power. The Fiat 500 (just like the original mini) was a fun responsive little car. It’s tough to drive well, it doesn’t have much grip with the skinny tires and the drum brakes are scary particularly when they start getting hot. It sounds good and is a great vintage car to drive, but let’s not forget it’s over 60 years old. I did everything I wanted to do with the car and became increasingly worried about the safety. The fuel tank is an aluminum box that hangs over the rear axle. You get rear ended by a landscaping truck and you’re going up in a mushroom cloud of fire. That car was sold too.

So we know which F40 this is and what the mileage was, where's the listing?

$3,965,000 for a USA F40 with just 1,832 miles (chassis number 87041) as sold by Gooding over Pebble Beach weekend, all of which are notable factors.

4 cam is way better to drive, it’s beautiful actually, probably one of the best looking and driving cars of the 60s (excluding comp swb, gto etc)

Thank you, Joe. This is tough the write because I don’t even like putting it out there in universe, but to be honest, I think that $4 million is going to be the high watermark for a very very long time. I don’t feel like the values have adjusted for the strength of the dollar. We are already seeing much lower numbers in the UK. I look forward to being wrong.

Excuse me for jumping in. I recently put another 350 miles on the TdF in a road rally. 60 of them were on very twisty roads with alternating sight because of tree shadowing. Dropoffs on one side or the other and thin lanes. No/small shoulders with redwoods on one side. So pretty bad if you screw up. Very.

I had so much fun driving that TdF extremely quickly through that portion. The brakes came alive and were fierce. I have also put MPS4S on for tires. They really helped as I had fast alternating road-damp discussions. They would have helped anyway. Whole lotta car to handle. Whole lotta fun.

That and my Pista are the most fun cars of the ones I own to drive in a situation like this. Including more fun than my CGT. (IMO). Took me about 400 miles of training on the TdF to get to this point.

If you care about car depreciation with the TdF, my guess is it will be less of a factor as it ages. I am guessing this is in the 15-20 year range.

I would say a big difference in depreciation between delivery miles and 10K miles. But I remember that I am depreciating faster than the car. :)

I suspect you’re talking about different the modern version TdF versus the early cars though…
