This is a shot in the dark…

I just got divorced (yay!) and the good news stops there. In a story that seems to be shared by everyone who’s ever been divorced, my ex-wife is making my life hell and trying to take everything. I’m in the military and was able to buy a Ferrari California a few years ago so there’d be room for the kids (I had an F355 before, but unfortunately wrecked it in Hawaii). While I was overseas in Egypt, she moved the kids to Wisconsin, got pregnant with someone else, and basically left me with nothing.

The poor California was in storage and I just got it back but it needs some serious work…all 4 struts, gearbox, and tires are the biggest ticket items…looking at $30K+ total on the recommended service.

I’m doing everything I can to fly from Florida to Wisconsin to see my kids as often as possible, but the expenses are really adding up between the divorce attorney, monthly cash back to the ex, and now these maintenance expenses for the California.

I am trying to keep the car, because the kids love it as much as I do and I want us to have something special…and still trying to get an equal time-share with them by paying for my ex’s schooling so she’ll move back to Florida with them.

All of that to say, I set up a gofundme in the hopes that there are some people out there who can understand my situation and may be in a place to help, however small.

So if you’re feeling generous and can sympathize with my plight, here’s the link:
    https://gofund.me/8ad3a7e1

Thanks for reading and feel free to hit me up with any advice—this is an awesome forum!
    Morgan

I’m sure you’re serious. And this is none of my business. But get rid of the car. It’s a piece of metal.

Spend your time and effort on your kids. That’s all that matters man.

    signed,

Dump the car, lose the sob story, too.

You have no idea how many guys here have lived through this here, and in all my time here, which is close to 20 years, I've never seen a pitch quite like this one. (I'm glad to say.)

We all sympathize to an extent, but many of us have sold cars, whatever we needed to post divorce, to keep our kids close, fed, happy and protected.

So, that's my advice, stop begging for a handout, get the car out the door, and concentrate on putting your life back together and keeping your kids happy.

There will be another time and opportunity for cars, but you don't get a do-over with kids.

I’m not gonna lie, I really, really appreciate this response! Your perspective is solid and right on point. I was unsure about doing this but thought, ‘what the hell, why not?’ You answered that.

    Thank you

Yeah, I haven’t posted anything here worth noting…this post included. But I’ve used it countless times and genuinely appreciate folks like you who provide all kinds of insights and useful information! Whether it’s maintenance tips, ownership insights, or just opinions and thoughts on Ferrari’s and other fast cars, I read it all - so thanks!

You're welcome. Now don't go asking us for money to cover you're stupid decisions. We get enough of that already.

    or ask him: @dream cars

He tried it with his kid.

If you know how to delete threads, I’m happy to delete this one. The gofundme is deleted. Embarrassing way to enter the discussions on here, but not disappointed with the community at all. I’ll make better contributions in the future…and choices lol!

We do not tend to delete threads here, Morgan. Bad decisions are things to learn from. Not hide. This will, maybe sadly, follow you for a long time.

I'm honestly still not sure if this is a joke, but in good faith I'll put in my $0.02.

The most important thing now is your kids. Nurture and do everything you can to foster that relationship. First step is making sure they come first, yes-that means get rid of the car. They don't need a fancy vehicle, what they need is a loving father. The most valuable thing you can do is give them your time, as much as you can.

I wish you the very best, and truly hope only positive things for you.

    Best wishes.

    Late to the party....

Ummm so I take it it's too late to advise the OP to sell the kids on the grey market, trade the ratty-ass Cali and upgrade to a nice 812 GTS?

    :D:oops::D:rolleyes:

Take it over to Bring a Trailer. They don't seem to care much what condition a car is in, so long as it's somewhat unusual (yours is) and the seller isn't TOO deceitful about condition. Or if it's any kind of 911. :D which yours is not.

Seriously, submit it to BAT, see what they say.

You might get a moderator to close the thread, but you won't get one to delete it. If you can get one to close it, soon enough it will disappear from the front page of FC, if not, then give it a couple weeks of additional comments from the gang here and it'll go away then. !st rule of making a thread disappear? STOP RESPONDING TO POSTS IN IT. Once you quit, most of the responders will as well.

From your description of the car's "needs", the first thing I'd suggest is to get a second opinion on the "needed service".

Some of those things don't seem to be things that would go bad from storage, unless you just left it in a field or in a salt air environment.

If the latter, from experience, I can say that car dealers in Navy towns tend to take advantage or people assumed to have back pay in their pockets.

Has anyone else seen a Getrag go bad just from being unused?

By any chance is the shop owner that advised that service friends with your ex? :p
