They normally do not go missing. They just get snapped off because of years of dissimilar metal corrosion and brass just snaps off at the slightest attempt to remove them.

Nope, they are different. The important part of these is their length and seat at the end - as that's what seals them.

Furthermore bleeders (if I recall) are tapered.

The other option is to completely remove them and just replace them with 5mm bolts and an o-ring. You can then just remove them and put in a standard 5mm 'tap' when you want to balance the throttle bodies. These are often supplied in balancing kits as they are a relatively standard fit on Throttle Bodies/Carbs, like these:

Of course you can't always leave these in, as they're just hollow tubes and won't seal...

Very nice....I'm just as obsessed as you are. My thumb screws were missing from my battery cover and it was killing me. I found one in Canada and one in Germany. I often wonder however if the car was ever in a concourse event if they would actually catch something like that!

They wouldn't want me judging one LOL.

This is more a functional thing though.. Without those tubes in place, you can't balance the throttle bodies. Having a snapped off bolt anywhere is also like having a hangnail just sitting there.. It has to be sorted out.
