I ordered the Superformance exhaust and I can’t figure out how it’s going to mount. Has anyone done this muffler in a spider? The mounts seem to go way up high. I saw that Fabspeed does a modification with the muffler spring mounts, but seems like I’m off 1/2 inch WITH THIS EXHAUST. Help? Image Unavailable, Please Login

Your muffler that you removed looks like one part of the twin muffler setup on the earlier 348. Was your cars exhaust modified in some way to fit that? The 348 spider muffler is normally a single can setup and not like the one you have pictured.

I have that exhaust fitted to my 91 TB. PN 156072. Its referred to as the sports exhaust. Its also the alternative to the 348 Challenge strait through pipes. You could probably fit that Superformance exhaust but may need alternative parts from what you have.

Looks right. You have to remove the cross bar that the exhaust hangs on and use the frame of the car as your mounting point. Essentially the same spot that the bar bolts on to, you will need to place the exhaust spring mounts. I believe you will need to flip the spring mounts in the opposite direction.

Ah ok .Interesting. I thought it might be an early car thing. I know your is. Ive only ever seen the bolt on type. I notice you dont have the horizontal bracket either. I suspect there may have been a production change on the rear frames from welded to bolt on at some point. Looking at a parts diagram from Dec 1990 it shows the bolt on type with horizontal bracket albeit not very clear. A while ago I was given a standard twin box system for nothing and it came with the mounts. Although I didnt fit it. They bolt on to the horizontal bracket I presume. . Mounts were exactly like the pic. -
The crossbar with single box option came later by the look of it.
My set up below with single box and cross bar mount. It would have been twin box originally..My car mid 1991. No bracket like yours.. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login

Hi Nick - I did have a horizontal cross bar - I just had to remove it to fit the Capristo which I am expecting the OP needs to do too.
The pics are awful but you can make out the crossbar being removed here and lying to one side in the other pic.

OP, take the cross bar off and put the new exhaust in place with some support under it and take some pics so we can see whats missing to support it. You should definitely reuse the sprung dampers so put them on the exhaust - it may become apparant where everything goes.

I had to unbolt my cross bar to allow fitment of my new exhaust.

Space left after the old exhaust and brackets were removed (you can see teh old cross piece lying to one side).

Capristo fittings appear to be in same place as the OPs exhaust.

My old exhaust was a single can one.

Dang I just shipped it back b/c superformance said it won't fit the spider.... DANG IT! I did try to put it in to place like the pics you have shown, but the width was off by 3/4-1 inch(too wide). That may have been a fabrication issue or me needing to force it to fit.... bummer

Bit late now but couldnt you have taken it to one of these custom exhaust fabricators and got them to re-fabricate the bracketry to fit?
