"looking past the allure of a brand in order to make something better by any reasonable measure. ...Replacing the heavier, slower and (infinitely more unreliable) stock Ferrari V8 is a fully-built and turbocharged Honda K24 engine. "

Well, it sorta, coulda looked like a 308. Well, maybe a kit car.

It looks like they've covered it in Super Glue and ram raided a car accessory shop that would be frequented by 18 year olds. (with credit to Jeremy Clarkson...)

The curves that make the 308 an outstandingly attractive car have been lost.

    Sorry :D

I like Hondas, and the two S2000s I had are for sure the best sports cars I have ever owned, but Honda K series are average mass market engines. Honda dorks get all excited by stuff like this, but the K24 was the engine in many bland Honda and Acura models, and to me not very special, hot-rodded or not.

One of you fellows with deep pockets, should buy this car, and return it to the way it came from the factory. The motor belongs in a Formula One car, not a Ferrari.

Another 308 ruined. I wonder how many are in some form of originality and still on the road worldwide?

I wish you folks would back off. Cars are consumer products sold to us to do with what we wish.

I hugely admire Mike Burroughs . I wish I had the confidence, tenacity, vision and skill to do what he does. When I was his age I could barely wield a wrench.

There is another faction of people in the car hobby who lament the lack of enthusiasm by the "next generation" regarding cars. Mike carries the flag up the hill.

All I know about it is that he sold the original engine on BaT for about $10k then spent $14k on those screw on plastic fender flares. I think this is really just an "Art" car, no testing or evaluation, just if it looked good he did it that way. His previous project had a front suspension component fail and he ran it into a parked car in front of his shop. Haven't seen hide nor hare of it since. He probably should have just bought an NSX, seems that's what he really wants.

As Brian A said, it's his car and he paid for it so nobody has any right to tell him what he can do with it but he does go out of his way on youtube to trash-talk Ferrari at every opportunity as if he is a WAY better engineer and designer/fabricator. If he hadn't done that I probably wouldn't have such a negative vibe about him. It's not personal.

I've watched the entire build series on this car and have enjoyed his version of mechanical debauchery, though not a fan at all of the so called aero mods. It is a shame he started with such a clean example, and clearly he is no engineer. But as Kiwiokie observed, he's buying eyeballs, building the brand and reputation of his shop. And I think it's a safe to assume that members of this forum are not his target audience. Hopefully all of the worthy parts he removed went to someone in the Ferrari community.

I've been watching and admiring his work on this project since he first posted it here. Truly an impressive amount of talent and hard work.

That said I'm a bit disappointed to see the final product. Other than the awful choice of white on white the final aesthetic is very derivative and not worthy of his talent. I wish he would have tried something different other than the usual, been there done that, barge boards and wing.

Why is he still calling it Ferrari? What is Ferrari about the car now? The body is PininFarina, the engine is Honda, suspensions is partly a Corvette, brake system, cooling system, and electrical system are none Ferrari, etc, etc.

I went over to his shop early on and looked at all of the interior pieces he removed. I was interested and offered to buy a few center dash/console components but I think he ended up selling them to a friend with a 308.

Why call the 308 engine unreliable?? That utter BS. If anything on a 308 is reliable it is the engine. Desktop warriors

Look, the motor does not belong in that car, not just because its a Honda which by the way would be a great F1 engine, but its not period correct for the car, it would have been much better to take the 308 motor, and do what Skunk Works, or that Newman fellow would do to increase the HP, and then, if anything, put the 288 GTO body kit on it, otherwise, forget it, its that simple. Or , just buy an F40 and be done with it, good grief. Hes a chump for trying to get attention with this abomination , if I saw him in person , I would tell him so.

How nice it would be if F1 would start to use this motor, its pretty straight forward and simple, with a lot of HP, it would be perfect at 1000 HP. Its amazing how insanely complicated and over engineered the Formula One motors are today. You want turbo F1, get rid of the engines , and have all the different teams and whoever is building the motors, use their own version of this guys design, its pretty cool, so he gets praises from me, I just disagree with his decision to destroy a 308 .

Over hamburgers a couple of nights ago, “kcabpilot" rebutted my earlier post and implied I had blind affection for the car.

Mike is definitely superimposing a “boy racer” aesthetic onto a classic shape. The reality is that I don’t like the look but that just means I wouldn’t do it to my car. Likewise, I think the Ferrari 308 has one of the sexiest antique interiors ever built: Mike tore it out without an iota of remorse. It is his car and he gets to choose. I wonder what other donor car he could have used to create such a sleek 42-inch tall Berlinetta and I can’t think of many other options. He loves the shape of the 308. More power to him.

His aesthetic choices are my big objections but my only objections. There may be mistakes he is making in structural design (I worry for his suspension structure) (which he will blame on Ferrari) and I am surprised by some of his choices. BUT …we all have to learn. Some of us do, but most of us don’t risk venturing as far offshore as Mike does. THAT is what I admire. Yeah, he is cavalier but he is learning by doing.

That he has over 50,000 people viewing his videos is a great thing. The comments on the videos are almost exclusively supportive of his choices. That means he is encouraging people like him to take a stake in the car culture. Hopefully it brings more people to the love of cars that we have. That can only be a good thing.

Something tells me that Honda make a conscious choice to not use the K24 for their F1 solution. For one thing, it's missing 2 cylinders. ;)

It's weird to see you make comments like this, but then stop by the shop and ask to see "the Ferrari" (as you call it) regularly, and ask to take photos. You know I see these posts, too, right?
