I have a 2014 FF, 23K miles. Drive it daily, it's been fine. This morning, start it up, I get warnings for mannetino, all wheel drive, traction control, and one other, and it won't come out of "wet road" setting (which was the last setting I drove it in). I start driving, and it sounds like scraping/gravel noise coming from front on car when I get about 20 mph. Stop car, start process all over. No warning lights, but same noise. On noise, I fully washed the car and pulled it into garage yesterday, first time driving since wash. Not sure if this is related. Noise sounds like rubbing to some extent, changes in sound with speed. Is it going to be the dreaded PTU?
hard to say - first thing to do is check the battery and if it has one bad cell, replace it and see. get the car on lift and see if you find any leaks also
As far as I am aware, and I could be totally wrong here, the PTU when it fails does not make any noice at all - it just leaks oil?
I am pretty certain my noise is related to the full car wash/detail I gave it. Car driving fine. Wash it in morning, including wheel brush, etc. Put in garage. Next time I drive it, all the waring lights go off. I do the typical Ferrari re-set. Turn off car, remove key, restart car. No warning lights. Drive car today, no more warning lights. makes a scraping/rubbing noise and It's tied completely to wheel rotation. Coming from front passenger wheel area. Drive down road, put car in neutral, still makes same noise. Faster you go, noise speeds up. I am pretty sure something got lodged in there from my cleaning or maybe bent a bit from my wheel brush. Maybe bristle between pad and disc. In fact, it is starting to fade away. Will put up on lift later this week to sort it out. Glad to hear not a typical PTA noise or experience. I also assume, if there is a PTU failure, the waring lights will continue to light up.
Except that a new set of discs and pads for the front axle (assuming something is lodged in there) is going to run close to the cost of a PTU rebuild anyway …
Perhaps try to dislodge the pebble by driving the car in reverse for a bit. I, too had this recently (not an FF) but it turns out to be a tiny pebble.
Jacked up the front of the car this evening, pulled the front passenger tire. After examination determined that the Metal protective plate surrounding the front of the disc to prevent stuff from getting up in there must’ve been hit by a rock because part of it dented inward. In turn, as the disc spun around the bolt heads on the back of the desk were rubbing up against this indentation. Was able to get in there and tap the bulge back enough in order to stop the bolt heads from rubbing against it. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Same on my Lusso after MOT, Horrible scraping noise like steel dragging on the road. Jacked the car up and spun the front wheels. Exactly the same issue as yours, the alloy plate had been slightly bent and was rubbing on the disc. Remedy was to just bend it slightly away......no more noise.
Mine was mangled up a little bit more. I went ahead and ordered a replacement part for the next time it’s in for service to swap it out. $42.
